Going to Barbados? Stay at the Silver Point Hotel

Diane Nassy
We have just returned from spending a week in the beautiful caribbean island of Barbados. This was our third trip to Barbados, and so far the best.

This time around, we decided to stay at the Silver Point Hotel. The Silver point hotel is nestled on Silver Rock Beach on the south coast of Barbados, in the town of Christ Church. Formerly known as the Silver Rock hotel, this hotel was completely renovated and renamed the Silver Point Hotel. It is a secluded hotel that is somewhat "off the beaten path," but that is what made it appealing to us.

The hotel offers three different types of rooms that you can choose from. There are studios, one bedroom suites and 2 bedroom suites. Regardless of which type of room you decide to choose, you can't lose as they all feature a private balcony and great amenities such as air conditioning, a large flat panel TV, a DVD player, wifi, an iPod docking station, and a comfy bed with soft linens.

We stayed in an ocean front studio room and the double French doors opening towards the beach, offered spectacular views from the balcony which overlooked the deck and the ocean. The room was noticeably very clean and ultra modern. The ocean front studios also include a small kitchenette area equipped with a sink, a microwave oven, a full size refrigerator with a freezer, silverware, glassware and dinnerware.

The hotel also features a pool that is somewhat on the small side, and a poolside/beachside restaurant.
Although they state that the beach is safe for swimming, we found the water to be pretty rough due to the constant breeze. In fact, it is a popular beach for kite surfing and surf boarding so if you are into surfing, or are interested in learning how to surf, then this beach would be absolutely perfect for you.

As I mentioned above, this hotel is pretty remote, so in order to get into town you will definitely need to either take a taxi, or take public transportation. To go into town, we chose to take public transportation. The Z R # 11 bus stops 1 1/2 blocks away from the hotel and will take you all the way to Bridgetown for only $1.50 (Barbadian currency). We thoroughly enjoyed taking the bus. We got to mingle with the locals and enjoyed the reggae and soca music that was played on board. The drivers also drive very fast, so it was quite an adventure. The #11 bus also passes by many popular tourist attractions such as Oistins, St. Lawrence Gap, George Washington House Museum, and Harbour Lights so it's a great, inexpensive way to get around while in Barbados.

Our stay at the Silver Point Hotel was awesome. The beautiful views of the ocean, cozy accommodations and cordial staff made for a very enjoyable stay. It is quite possibly one of the best hotels in Barbados! We loved it so much that we can't wait to go back.
