Going Down the Jersey Shore

Summertime Memories of the Jersey Shore, Steel Pier, the Diving Horse, Mister Peanut and Salt Water Taffy

Deb Martin-Webster
A pizza guy is tossing dough
over head he flips and spins
twenty bucks buys a lot of tickets
and four foot teddy bears to win

Carousel horses go up and down
smiling kids eat cotton candy
rollercoaster screams are heard
from your mom and sister Sandi

Music from the Steel Pier
attract the Frankie Valli fans
boardwalk barker works the crowd
whack a mole if you can

Stroll along waters edge
throwing shells into the surf
Rival locals draw a line
for their piece of ocean turf

Watch the tram cars riding by
seagulls begging for a meal
Ice cream man strides through the sand
two for one what a deal

It's not the beach or the coast
that people visit anymore
put on your shades and Coppertone
its summertime down the Jersey shore

My family had a place in Wildwood,NJ but I loved Atlantic City. Every year I would stand beside Mister Peanut to see how much I'd grown. . . . fond memories!

Used to go to LBI all the time as a kid. Love Sea Isle too and nothing is as good as Mack & Manco's pizza in Ocean City.
