The majority of commercially available bamboo fencing comes in rolls or panels. Typically, these will be made of ½ inch or 1 inch in diameter canes joined with stainless-steel or galvanized wire. Woven bamboo rolls, which use more slender canes, are also available. These only use the external branch of the split bamboo cane. It is important to note that the cane style bamboo fencing is much more durable than the woven bamboo fencing lasting 20 years as opposed to only 10 years.
Bamboo fencing is easily installing right over an existing fence. For a chain link fence, simply wrap the bamboo panels right around your chain link fence using heavy-duty, steel galvanized wire. For a hardwood board fence, follow the same instructions using the split bamboo panel and attach them with staples rather than wire.
For stand-alone bamboo fencing you must first put into the ground high, hardwood poles to use as a support frame for the fence. Since bamboo disintegrates quicker if it is in steady contact with the dampness from the ground, be sure that the framework is hardwood. It will be necessary to leave one to two inches of space between the ground and the bamboo fencing. This space can then be closed using wire mesh. The stand-alone bamboo fencing provides your yard with a more natural and fresh look.
Bamboo fencing provides a unique and attractive solution to your fencing needs while still helping you to maintain the privacy that you desire. Since bamboo fencing is naturally dried, cured, and has a wax coating that is water and mildew resistant, your fence is sure to last for a long time without much maintenance. In addition, bamboo fencing is more economical than traditional wood fencing, costing significantly less than other comparable fencing options. A great DIY project, bamboo fencing is easy to install and upkeep. And best of all it is a renewable resource and environmentally friendly.
