Going Green - the Dirty Side

Kryss Emigh
Everyone has been jumping on the green bandwagon lately. I am all for going green, but there are some things I am just not willing to do. Yes by all means save the earth! Use energy efficient light bulbs, and solar panels. But, there are some lines that I personally just can't cross. I have a professional job and I need to have a neat appearance at work, and besides there is the eeeww factor. Here are some things you can do to save the earth that I am not willing to do myself:

Don't shave: It will save tons of much needed space in the landfill if people stop shaving and throwing away disposable razors, or razor heads. Also you won't use as much water, and will not be using shaving cream which eliminates more waste in the dump. Not only will you save money, but soon you will be able to turn heads with Chewbacca armpits and legs, which by the way could save you money in the winter. With a built in sweater like that you may not need to turn on the heat as much.

Don't wash your hair: Yes this will also save the earth, you won't be using as much water, or as many bottles of shampoo or conditioner. In fact you can create your very own eco-system for communities of lice and other bugs. You could go one step farther and shave it all off so you do not ever need to worry about wasting water on your hair again. This would also save you money as you would never need to buy mouse, hairspray, brushes, hair coloring etc....

Don't shower or brush your teeth: It speaks for itself, it saves water and you no longer need to worry about those annoying social events or friends. If anyone questions you about your odor you can just telling them you're doing your part to save mother earth.

There are plenty of ways to help out and make an impact. We did change out light bulbs; we have energy efficient appliances and a few solar powered lights. We recycle, have a garden and try to do our part to stay green, so please no angry emails. I however am going to continue to shower, shave, wash my hair and brush my teeth. I love the planet, but I also like having people being able to withstand being within a five foot radius of me.

How about re-usable (cloth) diapers? I'm sure that would save lots of trash and would be lots of fun to try out : )
