Going Green with Your Dorm Room Appliances

Going green is the big thing. Helping the ecology and saving the planet is on almost everyone's mind. For the college student, there are many things that can be purchased to use that are green, and can help them save money.

One of the coolest things I have seen is this gadget for recharging batteries. It is a HYmini Basic Package Charger. This item will charge a 1200 lithium mAh built in battery. Using wind power while jogging, ridding your bike, or just sitting out side, the fan will charge the battery that will run any of your 5V items, such as Ipods, mp3 players, pda, and many more. If you don't have wind, don't worry, you can either use any of these methods such as the ac/dc adapter, mini solar panels, a hand crank, or any other options available. The litium ion battery has a lifetime of 500 full cycle charges, with a capacity of 1000 mAh on full charge. You get in this package, the HYmini, AC/DC power adapter, USB transfer cable, 5 connectors, and an instruction manual. This sounds like a neet little gadget to have around the house and it can be purchased for $50.

Another great little gadget, simular to one that we have is this hand generator flashlight. The Insta-lite Clear Dynamo Flashlight sells for $49. It features clear case construction to allow you to watch what is going on inside the flashlight. It is light weight and comes with a spare bulb. This item is easy to charge, just squeeze the handle grip a few times and the light will shine brightly. Great to have around if the lights go out, and you never have to worry that the batteries have died or is oozing all over the insides, ruining the light.

Another real cool idea is the plantable Christmas Greetings cards. These cards come 8 in a pack and start at $25. Everyone throws out the Christmas cards, well when they do this time, they can throw it out in a flower pot, and then they will have flowers blooming! These are great gift ideas that can be attractive when thrown away!

LED lamps use less energy than incadescent and fluorescent lights, and they are bright and look nice. These bulbs do not contain mercury vapor like fluorescent bulbs. This light works in most outlets. This light features a heavy base to keep if from tipping over, on/off switch, adjustable stem angle, and low heat radiates off this item, unlike other bulbs. This lamp is about 15" tall. The cost of this lamp is $80.

This little gadget is great for the office and for the dorm. The staple free stapler actually cuts out little strips of paper, and uses those strips to stitch together up to three pieces of paper. This little stapler looks like any other stapler, but you wont get cut on staples that are jammed, and you don't have to worry about the staples getting stuck in carpet or end up in your feet. This is a cute little gadget, and would make a great gift. For those of you who have an office or business and would like, you can even have this imprinted with your business or logo! This item without imprinting sells for $24 each, and comes in dark blue, dark green and solid grey.
