Going Green is Easier Than You Think

Simple Ways to Live a Green Life

Everyone has heard about global warming and its effects. While some believe that there is nothing that we can do about it without the help of major corporations, there are little things that we can do in our daily lives to cut down the impact. Every little bit helps and with these tips, you can make sure that you are doing your part.

The first tip is obviously to recycle. Newspapers, cardboard boxes, bottles, glass, cans, and plastic containers can all be recycled. Recycle used clothing by dropping it off at a thrift store, or using old t-shirts for dust rags. This is a double whammy because you won't have to buy any paper towels from the store. You can also purchase cloth napkins to use for eating. Instead of buying multi-packs of water bottles, purchase a reusable water bottle and buy the big liter jugs of water to fill up your bottle with.

Replace your old light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). These save much more energy than standard light bulbs so not only will you be helping the earth, but you will see your energy bill go down.

Turn off electrical devices when they are not in use and unplug them. Even when they are just plugged in, they use energy. Instead of putting on the lights, try to do your most important stuff during the day when you have natural sunlight. Make sure your appliances are Energy Star.

Wait to do loads of laundry or to run your dishwasher until you have a full load. Wash the clothes on the cold setting and then put them out on a clothes line. Make sure you don't have any water leaks and that you turn off the water when you are shaving or brushing your teeth.

Pay your bills online. There are a few incentives for this, too. You save paper, stamps, and checks.

With these tips, anyone can help save the planet we call home. Do your part and help reverse the effects that humanity is having on the earth.
