Going Green for the Holidays

Sherrill Fulghum
In today's hurry scurry world finding time to shop for the holidays is often a difficult task. By the time a person has the time to shop the stores are closed. For those who live in snow regions getting out in the cold and snow is often a daunting task. But in the internet age shopping can be much easier and better for the environment in the process.

With online shopping for gifts you have the option of having the items sent to your own home or you can have the items delivered directly to the person it was meant for by the company. Since shipping charges are often included with orders you can save, time money, and a hassle by having the items delivered by the company.

For online shoppers there is a broader choice of stores than at the local mall. Besides the online merchants like overstock and amazon nearly all of the major depatrment stores have websites. For shoppers who do not wish to use their credit card in several places there are several online payment services like paypal which offer a secure method for online payment. With online shopping there is no need to worry about filling the gas tank, getting dressed, especially in winter, or what time the store is open. Whether it be 2am or 2pm the internet stores are always open.

By buying gifts online and having the merchant deliver them or by purchasing gift cards you also save on wrapping paper and all the accesories needed. This saves you more money and helps the environment by not having all that extra paper.

For people who have family members scattered all over the country or even overseas the gift card is an excellent way to help save time and money. Teens can often be the most difficult people to buy a gift for and with a gift card there is no worry about burning time nad fuel to make several trips to a store for the right item or having to stand in endless return lines after the holiday is over. The gift card can also save moeny in other ways like being able to buy an item after the holiday is over the things go on sale.

For the do it yourself type of gift giver recycling old household items in to artists creations is an excellent way to save money and give someone a one of a kind gift. For people who want to learn something new, craft classes are excellent ways to create that special something. Mothers and Grandmothers always love getting hand made gifts from family members.

Gift giving does not need to be a stressful and expensive venture; with a little effort you can save yourself some time and moeny while helping out the environment.
