When you are ready to buy new tires for your car consider buying a very good, strong, all weather tire. It is good for various seasonal weather from heat to rain to light snow. It will wear much longer and will not have to be replaced as often. Not only does it save you money in the years to come, but it is a safer tire for your car and for your families safety.
If you live in a snow country where snow tires are needed just to get to work then you can invest in a good studded tire. Spend in the medium to high range on snow tires. They will hold up under very harsh conditions of snow and road wear from the ever working snow plows. At the end of the season you exchange them for your all weather tires that have been in storage. Any tire store will make the switch for you at reasonable prices. All you have to do is store them away until the season arrives when you will once again need them. You will preserve the life and wear of both sets of tires and extend their use for several years without new investment each time.
Check your tires often for wear and air pressure. If you make sure the pressure is correct at least once a month a tire will wear even and last longer than normal. If your tire is low on air day after day take it to a shop as soon as possible and have them look for and fix a leak. Don't replace a tire that is beginning to wear. Consider having the tire retread for another season's use.
When you are ready to replace a tire instead of buying brand new check for tires for sale by private owners or place an ad requesting tires in your size. Many people have tires around their homes that came from a car that had been wrecked, sold or they purchased tires in the wrong size and didn't bother to return them. Winter tires are great finds with many still on the rim. Choose tires with good tread left on them and ask about former repairs. It isn't at all expensive to have a tire shop change tires onto your own rims. All you have to do is make a deal, make a trade or accept a free offer.
Now you are ready to begin your green living starting with the tires on your car. Buy good products for more money and make them last longer. Tires are hard to recycle and the more you can do to keep them from the recycling circle any sooner than they need to be the better it is for the environment. Living green starts with good quality of a longer lasting and better made product. So buy smart instead of cheap.
