Going Green: The Top Five Green Vehicles

Theresa L.
When people talk about green, they are not referring to the color. Instead, they are talking about becoming environmentally conscious, and one of the best ways to do that is by purchasing yourself a new hybrid. Hybrids are vehicles that combine both gasoline and electric, thus giving these vehicles they name of hybrids.

There is plenty of advantages to going green with vehicles, for example, the cost of gas. However, with so many new hybrids on the market it is hard to decide which one to purchase. To make that decision easier for you, I have put together the top five green vehicles on the market.

Volkswagen Jetta. The Volkswagon Jetta is a excellent choice for anyone who does not have a lot of cash to spent. With a sale price around $25,000, the Jetta is one of the cheapest hybrids on the market.

The VW Jetta gets about 41 MPG on the highway, while, in the city, you will get about 30 MPG. Most vehicles do not offer you that kind of mileage, and that is what makes the Volkswagon Jetta my top pick for any green enthusiast.

Ford Fusion. If you are looking to spend a little bit more, then the Ford Fusion should be on your list of hybrids. Starting at $28,000, the Ford Fusion offers 41 MPG in the city but only 36 MPG's on the highway.

Unlike other hybrids, the Fusion does have a downside. The Fusion Hybrid comes with a CVT transmission, and if you are familiar with a CVT transmission, then you know it can be loud.

Toyota Prius V. Part of the reason I like the Prius V is the cost and mileage. While driving on the highway, the Prius gets up to 48 MPG while, in the city, you can get around 51 MPG's. The Prius is one of the highest in mileage and has a starting cost around $29,000.

Limited Hybrid FWD. I had to throw the Limited Hybrid FWD in for all car collectors. With a starting price around $42,000, the Limited Hybrid will not be around long but will offer its owners the comfort of any explorer.

The downside of the Limited Hybrid is the mileage. Even, though, the mileage is great for an explorer, at around 32 MPGs both in the city and highway, you will not get as far as you would with one of the green vehicles listed above.

Lexus HS 250h. Granted the BMW has a impressive Hybrid vehicle, I am still partial to the Lexus. For around $40,000, the Lexus HS 250h offers you 35 MPG driving in the city and highway.

The Lexus HS 250h is equal to many other hybrids on the market. The downside is that it does carry the price of owning a Lexus.

While those are my top five picks for green vehicles, there are other great hybrids on the market. Yahoo autos has put together a complete list of all hybrids on the market, and has made it easier for you to go green.

Good to know! I am checking in with all my friends before I leave again for 4 days! Between hospital runs south and my travel plans I have been away far too much. My iPod Touch doesn't allow me to post comments but I can read...and with long hours in the hospital (thank goodness for free Wifi) reading AC articles and lovely poetry keeps me sane!!

specifically the hydrogen fuel cell. sorry I wasn't clear.

I wish they would just go all out and give us a fuel cell driven car. It produces pure water as the exhaust. Think of that. That would kill two birds with one stone. We could water the lawn with water collected from all of that driving. :)
