Having pets that you can take with on some adventures is such a great idea. If you want to go hunting or swimming, the Labrador would be a great companion for you. Labradors are very intelligent dogs and could easy be taught to obey your commands so you do not have to worry that your dog would wander off and get lost in the words when hunting. Besides, Labradors are experts when it comes to finding their way home.

What makes Labradors very excellent hunting companies is that they have the right level of energy and the drive. Although Labradors that have be breed for show may be less apt when it comes to hunting outdoors, they could still be very good when it comes to retrieving things. On the other hand, Labradors that have been used to outdoor activities are definitely winners when it comes to hunting. Not only will Labradors help you retrieve things for you when you are hunting, they are also excellent when it comes to spotting prey.

Labradors are not afraid of the water. In fact, Labradors love to swim and can be counted on to retrieve things from the water. The coat of the Labrador makes it suitable for swimming. Labradors have double coat, the first layer is soft downy type that will keep them dry and warm during cold weather and they have this hard outer coat that could keep the water off their bodies when they do swimming. The tail of the Labrador is like that on an otter, which is thick and tamper towards the end, which is very idea for swimming.

Teaching your Labrador puppy how to swim is easy. If you have an adult Labrador, you simply let the adult dog go into the water and the puppy would be happy to follow. Don't worry about your puppy, Labradors are born swimmers and adult Labradors are know to take care the young very well. However, if you do not have any adult Labrador to teach your puppy how to swim, you might want to introduce you puppy slowly to the water. Never ever throw your puppy into the water. Although Labrador puppies will probably swim just as soon as they touch the water, you will traumatize your puppy that they will think twice about going into the water next time. When introducing the Labrador pup into the water for the first, let it play in the shallow area first. Sooner or later, the puppy will get curious and will swim into the deeper side of the water.
