Going on Vacation with My Daughter

Kathryn Mitschelen
Last year we went on 'vacation' at a hotel right in our city. We picked a weekend in the dead of winter. We were so sick of being cooped up in the house, and we were out of ideas for family fun. Since we have animals and it can be hard to make arrangements for their care, we decided to stay in town at a local hotel so we were close to home, but had a change of scenery.

What a wonderful 'trip' we had. The hotel was not busy at all. We had the pool and family areas all to ourselves. The staff was friendly, and it was fun to meet people from our area that we didn't know. We had the whole buffet breakfast to ourselves in the morning, and got to watch a beautiful snowstorm while we ate.

It was quite convenient to be in town so we could run back to the house and take care of our pets. There wasn't one memorable event that sticks out from that 'vacation', but rather the whole trip was memorable. We got to spend quality time as a family away from our home and responsibilities, but we didn't have to spend a whole lot of money.

We have decided to make this a family tradition and go once a year to the same hotel. When we feel like we can't take the snow and winter anymore we know it's time to pack up and go on 'vacation' in our home town.
