Going Vegan for Weightloss

Lifestyle that Won't Hurt Your Mid-section

Shawn Monk
I wonder if more people shouldn't try to be a vegan or vegetarian. It is normally an ethical decision based on animal rights that drive people to adopt a vegetarian or vegan style of life, however I have noticed that vegetarians are not known for being overweight.

People who are chronically overweight try to diet all the time. The hazard with dieting is the fact that dieting is a temporary change of lifestyle that is ended when you have reached your goal and thus your goals although reached are quickly lost. You can't diet to become the shape you want to be. You have to change your lifestyle to be were you want to be.

Vegetarians are people who primarily eat vegetables. Vegans are people who will not eat or use anything that is a product or bi-products of animals however some insect bi-products are controversial such as silk and honey.

The question came to me when I was wondering what our society is doing wrong. We as an American nation have grown increasingly larger around the waistline. Our economy drives more and more of us to the dollar value meal which are small meals packed with gigantic calorie counts. I wonder if for some people learning how to live a different style of life through diet wouldn't end up being their way back to a manageable weight.

One issue overweight people have to deal with is the abundance of food options always available to them. If certain food were off limits then they would be forced to make better choices. If you didn't have access to certain foods, would it help you lose weight? Being a vegetarian would make it easier for you to maintain your weight. You wouldn't succumb to the peer pressure of overeating on unearthly junk food, while dining with friends, if you could put your alternative diet slash lifestyle as a first priority.

Adopting a vegetarian lifestyle needs to be well planned, because the diet is usually low in levels of calcium, iodine, vitamin b12, and vitamin d. Planning ahead and taking vitamin supplements is all that is required.

I'm not saying be a vegetarian for weight loss only, but maybe you love animals and hate weight-watchers. You could channel your love of animals into a sustainable lifestyle through the support of pre-existing vegetarian support groups.

Now maybe going vegetarian is going to far for you. In that case maybe we should attempt to single handedly take down McDonald or Nabisco, but I am just trying to offer suggestions to those people searching for ways to lose weight and keep it off.
