I'll tell you what I have figured out for myself and if you can apply to your life, great. If not, please take it with a grain of salt.
My purpose here on this Earth is to learn and grow as an individual. At many different times in life, I fill many different shoes and play many different roles. Sometimes I'm a teacher and sometimes I'm a student. Sometimes I'm a participant and sometimes I'm an observer.
Whatever I am in life, I try to listen to the world around me to the best of my ability; while at the same time, listening to the world within me. I've found that often times if the two don't mesh together like puzzle pieces, (I'll use that interesting analogy), that something needs to change. Either something needs to change in the outside world, like maybe I really need to work on something. Or, it may be a matter of getting more information in my head about things or coming up with new and different ideas. Either way, something is bound to happen; and that is because nothing ever stays the same.
When I'm with my son, I am often the teacher; helping him explore new worlds while getting to know himself better. I'll find myself falling into the role of tour guide with my son too. He wants to go out and explore the world and find out what makes it tick, while I'm just trying to make it through the day. There are also times when I fall into the role of student and my son falls into the role of teacher.
When you have kids, you'll often find yourself doing things not for your benefit but, for the benefit of the child. This is an unselfish act and I always try to look at it from the vantage point of putting myself in their shoes.
Please take a moment, right now; and just imagine what the world would be like if it was the same all the time and didn't ever change. It would be pretty darn boring, wouldn't it?
If there is anything in life that is guaranteed, it is change. Change always happens, whether you like it or not. If somebody tells you that nothing in life is guaranteed; that is a lie because change is always guaranteed to happen.
