Gold Digger: Like a Hooker, Only Smarter

Shameless Gold Digging Abounds in Modern Society

Twenty First Century Gold Rush: Start panning for gold before the supply runs dry ladies!

I thought the Colorado gold rush ended in about 1860. What about the California gold rush? Didn't it run its course somewhere around 1890? Why is it that there are still so many gold diggers rooting around for an easy fortune? I see so many single women nowadays looking for a man with money. They don't care how he looks, what his background is, or whether his personality is a fit for them. They are focusing on his fat wallet. I have even heard a couple of my single friends say that even if they end up divorced, child support and maybe alimony will kick in to allow a pricey lifestyle to continue. These women hunt down these unsuspecting men, charm them with their feminine wiles, marry them and stick around just long enough to have a couple of human meal tickets and maybe even long enough for the required alimony law to apply. Then the divorce papers are served. Research shows that throughout most of North American history, wives have filed for divorce twice as often as husbands. Even relatively 'bad' or extremely unhappy husbands are unlikely to actually go through with filing for divorce compared to women.

Evidence abounds betraying the prevalence of this phenomenon. Almost every site I visit (even mainstream news sites) have at least one ad touting promises to set female customers up with wealthy men in their region (www.wealthymen.com). Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't marriage supposed to be based, at least in large part, on love, respect, and personal compatibility? I ask my female peers: is this really what you want? Is this your destiny? Living for money and material goods rather than togetherness and companionship augmented by profound respect and love? Call me idealistic and naïve, but I'd rather be alone than take advantage of another's wealth solely for my own pleasure and hedonistic desires. While a one might actually find deep unconditional love with a wealthy man, the wallet should never be the top requirement or even in the top ten requirements for that matter.

I have heard the arguments from women attempting to justify this deceitful behavior. One rationale states that men often date or marry women based on their looks, breast size, and/or sexual prowess. While this is certainly true, men who use these sorts of superficial constraints, as their main criteria when picking a mate will be in for quite a surprise twenty years down the road (if their marriage even lasts that long). Men of this type will most likely tire of their toy, become unfaithful, and basically trash their love lives and end up old and alone. Contrary to what the media and entertainment industry would have us believe, most men are far less shallow than women think. However, my point is that even if men choose their mates based on some preconceived adolescent sexual fantasy, why would women want to stoop to a similar level of intellectual poverty? I thought women could 'bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan'. What ever happened to 'I am woman hear me roar'? It seems more like the mantra is 'I'll give it to ya boy, if you buy me Prada'. It seems to me that the devil really does wear Prada.

Women have rallied and protested and shed sweat and tears to become equal and have the same rights as men. Why are so many now wanting to have everything handed to them on the platter of patriarchy? Don't get me wrong, I am about as traditional a woman as one can find in this modern day and age. I have no problem with patriarchy. I just wonder why I hear no feminist outcry on this subject. The feminists should be driving a grassroots campaign extolling the freedoms won by women who might marry a house husband and be the sole breadwinner for the partnership. Instead they hold meetings degrading the male population as a whole. These meetings put any misogyny brought by males to utter shame (http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/roberts/050503). Kanye West may not be 'sayin' she's a gold digger', but I AM sayin' it baby!

Gold digging by women can be far more subtle and innocent seeming if they go about it in an intelligent way. Take of case of a woman I'll call Jean. She married young to a man who was not wealthy but who clearly had that hard core breadwinning potential. While he never became wealthy he worked hard and bought Jean everything she wanted. As soon as her want list was filled and he was bone dry, she filed for divorce, took the last of his dignity through exorbitant child support and alimony. Now complaining publicly in her news column about how she now 'must work' he is further humiliated as his entire hometown sees him as a deadbeat.

In closing, I want to say to those women who continue to use men as their personal pawns that you are all just a bunch of hookers just getting your tricks in a smarter way.

  • Criteria for choosing a partner should take the high road not the one paved with gold.
  • Where is the feminist outcry when women unashamedly hunt for rich men?
  • When women sink to the lowest levels of intellectual poverty, everyone suffers.
Women file for divorce 75% more often than men.
