Gold Making Any WoW Toon (level 68+) Can Do in WotLK
Start Making Some Serious WoW Gold in WotLK with These Tips
I made over 20,000 gold on WoW in the six weeks prior to the WotLK release and I did it through a lot of hard work and paying attention in the AH. My main focus during that entire period was on earning gold and only on earning gold because I knew that once the WotLK expansion came out, everyone would be focusing on leveling in WotLK and the WoW economy as we knew it would experience a quick and severe downturn. Prices for formerly expensive items would drop dramatically as buyers stopped buying and focused on leveling in WotLK as quickly as possible.
This is exactly what has happened with the WotLK release. My AH sales came to a virtual standstill by 12:20AM on November 13, and yours probably did, too. (In case you are wondering why I earned so much WoW gold during the WotLK pre-launch period, I had heard about and decided I really wanted the WotLK Traveler's Tundra Mammoth, which has a 20,000 gold price tag. His picture is to the left of this article, and yes, he was worth every last piece of WoW gold!)
There are now several level 80 characters in WotLK. Most people are starting to slow down leveling their character and starting to check out all the cool stuff in Dalaran or think about leveling their WoW professions to WotLK levels, which means they'll be spending their WoW gold. And that means you have an opportunity to start making some serious gold again. Any WoW character level 68 or higher and who has the WotLK expansion will be able to make use of the following tips, regardless of profession.
Of course, having a gathering profession on a high level WoW toon in WotLK is a guaranteed gold-maker, which you likely already know, so there's no point in writing a WoW gold guide for WotLK about that. However, you can also make some serious WoW gold using your fishing and cooking skills in WotLK, so look for a future WoW gold making article on that subject coming from me very soon, and start leveling your fishing and cooking to WotLK levels now.
Gold Making Any WoW Toon Can Do in WotLK
There are 5 WotLK items any WoW toon can access because all it involves is grinding mobs. Those 5 gold making items are:
Frostweave Cloth - Almost all non-animal WotLK mobs drop Frostweave cloth, and it makes a lot of gold because its needed by most WoW toons to level First Aid to WotLK levels and is of course needed by WoW tailors and those seeking the new WotLK tailored items. Really, any humanoid-ish (might be a ghoul, but if it was at any time human form or is an NPC that would trade) is good to grind for this drop anywhere in the Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord. Your best bet for max drops is just find an area with the least amount of competition. Check Thottbot or Wowhead for drop rates if you want to see what the best drops are, but I've really found that just using the above tip will get you plenty of it. This sells on my server for between 2 and 2.5 gold EACH PIECE, so a stack of 20 will get you 40 gold - grind for an hour, and your gold earning rate will probably be about 150 to 200 gold per hour.
For each of the following 4 items, it is best to sell them in individual form rather than turning stacks of 10 into the Eternal form of the item because many of the WotLK recipes for leveling in many different WoW professions require the Crystallized rather than Eternal form - this will probably change in terms of gold earning (meaning, the Eternals will be more valuable than the Crystallized) as more people hit higher levels, but to maximize your WoW Gold profits for now, keep them in Crystallized form. These are more difficult drops to attain, but are also highly sought after because so many of the WotLK professions require them.
Crystallized Earth -The best place to grind for this is in Howling Fjord at Giant's Run or at Steel Gate. The selling price varies quite a bit depending upon availability, so you may want to time your AH listing to maximize profits. Selling currently on my server for between 1.5 and 3 gold each. Of course, WoW miners can also get these from Cobalt ore nodes.
Crystallized Air - Best grinding spot for these is in Borean Tundra, southeast of Fizzlecrank Airstrip, in the pools on the east side of the Geyser Fields, off of the Steam Ragers. This might seem a waste of WoW grinding time, but these can sell for up to 7 gold EACH on my server - 70 gold for a single stack of ten is nothing to sneeze at! Time your AH listing to maximize profit, you shouldn't be selling these for less than 4 gold each in my opinion.
Crystallized Water - Look for elementals in the northern mountains of the Howling Fjord for these relatively easy to come by WoW drops. Currently selling for 2-3 WoW gold each on my server.
Crystallized Life - Okay, now we're talking some serious WoW goldz. These babies consistently sell for between 4 gold and 8 gold on my server, I'm guessing because most people don't know where to find them or don't want to spend the time grinding for them. You'll want to grind for these in the Howling Fjord off of the Thornvine Creepers in the Twisted Glade. These have a quick re-spawn rate, so you shouldn't have much trouble gathering these WotLK drops.
Using these tips in WotLK, you should have plenty of WoW gold on your WotLK toons in no time flat. Plus, many of these areas have multiple quests, so you can earn WoW gold and experience at the same time. Above all, make sure you are having fun as you adventure and get rich in WotLK!

Post a CommentEvery AH is different for different servers. Always has been. Depends on the individual market. But yes, it is essential to make as much World of Warcraft Gold as possible pre-expansion.
why AH prices drop ?
I remember back in the old day for Primal shadow you used to pay 20g per one, why now on crystallized its less ?.
I think its start when people just want to sell rather then gaining money -the don't stop and think "maybe ill make more money out of it ,why selling it right away !for less money .
there is people that dont know how to invest and they selling them self low on the market -and then another player come and want to sell his item he couldn't do anything with it so he sell it for less ... that how its start !
And just a note to those new readers - this is already outdated in regards to the profits of the crystallized v. the profits of the eternals - and currently, eternal fire and eternal life and the top sellers (EL because it's still relatively hard to get and EF because it's needed for titansteel bars, which are used in many highend crafted plate items).
I totally agree - and also want to note for current readers that although this article was written and published just last week, I am already seeing dramatic shifts in the price ranges. Crystallized Life is still a hot seller, but Earth & Water have slowed considerably, and Frostweave has dropped just a bit lately - I think it's going to stablize around 20 g per stack for a long while, then will likely drop to 50-75% of that amount. Which means its still good gold for now - so sell your cloth and wait a few weeks to level your first aid!
Great starter tips, AH prices are crazy right now. Holding off on leveling your trade skills can net you thousands of gold by just selling various items you pick up from leveling.
