Golden Chopsticks: Good Authenic Chinese Food

Mandarin & Szechuan Cuisine that Couldn't Be Finer

Jo Adamson
I was in for a real treat (and pleasant surprise) when my husband and I went to the "Golden Chopsticks" restaurant in Maple Valley.

We had eaten there before when it was The Golden Phoenix, but we didn't realize that the restaurant had changed names and owners until we took a look at the menu.

There were more items to choose from and (a small thing to be sure but important to us) we were able to get the hot chile Sriracha sauce with our dinner.

For an appetizer I ordered the potstickers. They were extraordinary: best potstickers I ever ate.
They were home made by the chef, who I was told, had been cooking since he was a boy in China.

I ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns and my husband ordered the Luncheon Special.

Food After The Takeover
After a few moments, the server, Damon brought the food to our table, and I could tell by looking at it that there was a 'new sheriff in town.'

The food tasted as good as it looked---and that was saying something. On one side of the plate of honey walnut prawns was a lovely pink (made out of rice) lotus flower. When I commented upon it, Damon said that it came from Malaysia.

The Honey Walnut sauce on the prawns was wonderful, and my husband's said his Sweet & Sour Pork was delicious as well.

The lunches really are special
(All luncheon specials are served with your choice of Soup: Wonton, Egg Flower, or Hot & Sour and steamed or fried rice. Wait, there's more! He also got his pick of appetizer: Egg Roll, Crab Rangoon or BBQ pork.)

"How long have you been in this restaurant?" I asked Damon when our meal was cleared and we were opening our fortunate cookie. Damon said that they had taken over the restaurant in October 1, 2010.

What struck me about the restaurant was the attention to detail: I notice detail since I spent four years as a service elevator. (Mystery shopper)

The food had just the right amount of seasoning. If you wanted something 'hotter' all you had to do was ask, and they would 'alter the spice according to your taste."

Damon asked if we wanted more tea and we had to decline. I didn't have room for one more thing.
As I went out the door, I said (again) how much I enjoyed the food and that we would definitely return.

We only lived four miles away, but if it'd been six times the distance it'd still be worth the trip. (And that' saying something with gas prices rising faster than the sun in the east!)
