CoorsTek, Inc., one of the largest manufacturers of technical ceramics in North America, today held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the 75,000 sq. ft. facility where its subsidiary, CoorsTek Armor Solutions, Inc., will manufacture a lightweight composite armor that is provided to various U.S. military contractors for use on military vehicles, including helicopters and Humvees. Another unique material being developed by CoorsTek Armor Solutions is a transparent ceramic known as CeraClearTM Spinel, which may be used in a variety of applications including the manufacture of "bulletproof glass" windows for military vehicles.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included Congressman Ed Perlmutter and various Golden city officials. The dignitaries were provided a presentation by CoorsTek Armor Solutions officials, as well as a tour of the facility, prior to the ribbon-cutting

The facility is the second in the U.S. for CoorsTek Armor Solutions, who also operate a 42,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Ogdensburg, N.Y. The creation of CoorsTek Armor Solutions grew out of the acquisition, in June 2008, of Canadian armor manufacturer, DEW Engineering & Development, Ltd. While CoorsTek Armor Solutions provides armor to U.S. customers, the two Canadian DEW facilities provide armor to foreign customers around the world.
