'Golden Girls' Star Rue McClanahan Passes Away and Bizarre Gary Coleman 911 Call Released

After a bizarre week that took yet another sampling of Hollywood actors (Dennis Hopper and Gary Coleman), comes the news that the second-to-last Golden Girl, Rue McClanahan, has passed away. On top of this, comes the publication of the disturbing 911 call from actor Gary Coleman's ex-wife on the day of his fatal fall that landed him in the hospital. However, the call is more troubling because of the cool, even cold attitude of the actor's ex-wife, Shannon Price.

Rest in Peace, Rue

Beloved Golden Girls actress Rue McClanahan passed away early Thursday from a massive stroke at age 76, leaving costar Betty White the lone survivor of the beloved television show's cast. McClanahan's passing follows the deaths of her costars Bea Arthur last year at age 86 and Estelle Getty in 2008 at age 84.

McClanahan played the lusty, Southern belle Blanche Devereaux in The Golden Girls, and was the youngest of the crew at age 51 when the show began in 1985. The show had a wildly successful run, lasting till 1992 and taking up permanent residence in reruns ever since. In an interesting twist, the character of Blanche was originally to be played by Betty White, a part audiences knew she could play due to her experience on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. However, when it was suggested to White that she give it a try playing Rose, McClanahan stepped into the role of Blanche.

According to People, White, 88, said in a statement,

"Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasure our relationship. It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that's even possible."

Strange Gary Coleman 911 Call

In the days following Gary Coleman's tragic passing, more and more strange bits of information began to emerge, such as the fact that his wife Shannon Price, who was with him during his fatal fall and during his stay in the hospital, was incidentally not his wife and hadn't been since 2008. This raised the question of whether or not she should have had any say in the decision to take Coleman off life support May 28th.

Now emerging is the 911 call from Price after Coleman, 42, fell in his home. In the call, an unusually calm Price, 24, told the operator that the actor had fallen while making her dinner.

"He just got home, I heard this big bang, I went downstairs. Blood everywhere," she said. "I don't know if he's OK. I'm not down there right now because I have seizures, if I get stressed out I'm going to seize."

She then told the operator that there was blood everywhere and later resisted when the operator prompted her to check on Coleman. "I've just been kind of sick," she said. "I don't want to be traumatized right now."

Later in the call, Price again refused, almost coldly, to go to Coleman to put pressure on the head wound. "I can't really help him. I just need help quick. ... I just can't be here with the blood. ... I'm sorry, I can't do it. I can't. ... There's blood all over and I can't do anything."

She later said she couldn't drive the actor to the hospital because she had been sick and was afraid of having a seizure.

The call is chilling mostly due to Price's unwillingness to do anything substantial for the actor, which worries individuals involved in Coleman's care. A representative for Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where Coleman was treated, told Entertainment Tonight that Price gave no indication that she was anyone but Coleman's wife. But despite the fact that the two were not married, legally Price was able to make medical decisions for Coleman, who had signed an "Advanced Health Care Directive" putting Price in charge of such matters whether they were married or not.

Though there is no official cause of death, police have stated that there was nothing suspicious about Coleman's accident. The actor was taken off life support two days later, when doctor's determined that he had suffered a brain hemorrhage.

Funeral plans have not yet been finalized.
