The Warriors first played at Cow Palace in 1962-1964, eventually returning there are staying at the Civic Auditorium and USF Memorial Gym for a total of only 2 years. In 1975, the team won their only championship despite making it to the finals a total of 3 times. Hall of Famers from the team include Rick Barry, Wilt Chamberlain, Tom Gola, Jerry Lucas, Robert Parish, Nate Thurmond, and both Alex Hannum and Bill Sharman as coaches. Wilt Chamberlain, Tom Meschery, Al Attles, Chris Mullin, Rick Barry, and Nate Thurmond all had their jerseys retired. The Warriors also had a handful of Rookie of the Year award winners in Rick Barry, Keith Wilkes, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Webber.
In 1975/1976 the Warriors put up their best record of 59-23. Twenty-five years later, the Warriors gain their worst record at 17-65, but have sense then been drastically reshaped into a new team. Don Nelson is now coach of the Warriors, and after losing Baron Davis to free agency and Monta Ellis to an off-court incident, they are already facing much adversity in the early beginning of the '08/'09 season. The Warriors are now being lead by team captain Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette, acquired in the Baron Davis trade. In the middle, the Warriors have one of the best young rebounding centers in Andris Biedrins. The Warriors are set to be a run-and-gun, 100+ point-scoring team as long as their players can stay healthy and free from suspensions.
