Are we suspended
Precariously...
Unsteadily...
Our lives hanging
Ever in the balance...
Tensile yet fragile,
This slender thread,
Bears the weight
Of years too well lived;
Times too recklessly spent;
Troubles visited
Upon ourselves -
By ourselves;
And injuries heaped
Upon us by others.
For some of us,
The thread is swiftly cut;
Severed far too soon
As on a highway
On bright spring morning.
For others,
The thread slowly unravels
Strand by strand.
And with it,
Memories and dreams
That fade to nothingness.
And in the end,
We are left to ponder
Only this:
On our own golden thread,
With our lives in the balance,
When do we fall...?
