Golf Club Review: The MacGregor MT Fairway Woods

MacGregor Golf has a mission in 2008. To get every golfer at least looking at their new products. They are going about this by totally revamping their lineup for the new year with all new products from Drivers to Putters. Their main goal was to get back to a little more traditional looking setup than their past MacTec line, and with their classic shaped woods and irons, they are doing just that. They are also offering a few more options in the irons department than last season as well. I have had a chance to hit each of them and have posted several reviews regarding the new MacGregor MT Line for 2008.

The MacGregor Golf MT Fairway Woods carry a little bit of technology over from the MacTec line. Featuring the Cub Face 360* Technology, they offer explosive distance and pin point accuracy. The Cup Face design allows for the face to be welded separately from the body for a hotter face and at the same time allowing for more weight to be moved to the perimeter of the club head. Whats different from the MacTec's are that they keep a very classic pear shaped look at address. The MT's also feature a new sole design that was created to reduce drag by adding a couple of rails to the bottom of the club. This will help to prevent hitting fat shots from all conditions. The head is square at address and has a slight draw bias to it.

I liked the look of this club. It has a little deeper face than I am comfortable staring at but the internal weighting really helped to get the ball airborne with ease. The club had a great feel in my hands and was very pleasing to look at from address. The ball was easy to work as well as long which makes this fairway wood the best of both worlds. I would have like to have seen a more shallow and longer face, but with the classic look they were going for, they hit a home run!

Overall this is a great fairway wood for a wide range of golfers. It looks and hits great, but for me personally it does not set behind the ball the way I would like it to. It's smaller, compact head will make better players fall in love with it, and all the new features and forgiveness will have armatures doing the same.
