I decided to review their new line for myself so I could see what all the buzz was about.
The G10 Irons are an all stainless steel irons which is going back to what made the G lineup popular. The Rapture, a composite/titanium hybrid wood did not live up to the hype in my opinion and was very expensive. The first thing you see when you set the G10 down is one, it keeps a fairly similar look to the G5 irons, with some improvements to its weighting. The main thing to keep in mind with these irons are that they are built for forgiveness first.
The G10 is basically a better version of the G5. I believe that these irons launch a little higher due to the slight changes in weight distribution from the G5, but overall they are basically the same iron and carry the same distance
When I hit some balls with last month, I will admit, I was impressed. I was able to square it up and the ball just jumped off the face! The ball launches high and really stays airborne for a longer period of time than that of the G5. While this does not equate to more distance, it makes it a little easier to work the ball even though working the ball was not very easy with these woods as I was unable to hit a fade with this club.
Overall, I would suggest these irons to anyone. I would also suggest using the Ping WRX club fitting service. Spend some time with your local pro or club maker and find a shaft and loft combination that will work best for you. There are many lofts available and your pro or club maker will get you fit into the right set up for you. Pings iron fitting is legendary, there are so many options in the WRX department.
From loft to lie, to length and shafts and grips, you can even get a special sole grind on these irons! Ping not only makes a great iron with great customer service, but the way the heads are made, they seem to last forever and are easily refinished and re grooved by Ping!
Give one a try over the Winter, you will be very pleased with the Ping G10 Irons! Check out my other reviews of the G10 lineup!
