Golf Courses and Country Clubs in Gulfport Florida

Ariana R. Cherry-Shearer
Gulfport, Florida is known as the "Gateway to the gulf." Its land and communities lie near the sparkling blue ocean waterways of the gulf. Some country clubs offer lessons and clinics that are made available to both young and adult golfers. Other golf courses offer other activities such as tennis, swimming and boating. For the family who enjoys an adventurous day of golfing, both children and adults can putt around at nearby miniature golf facilities.

Private Golfing

The Pasadena Yacht & Country Club is known for several famous people such as Babe Ruth, Walter Hagen and Arnold Palmer to have walked their courses. The golf course was designed by Walter Hagen and renovated by Arnold Palmer. Pasadena Yacht & Country Club offers both golf clinics to children and their parents. There are also family memberships available. Golfers can also stay active and fit at the health club that features a Jr. Olympic swimming pool and tennis courts. The country club also offers a yacht basin with 82 boat slips.

Public Golfing

The Mainlands Golf Course is a family operated public country golf course located in Seminole, Florida which is 8 miles from the center of Gulfport. The golf course is made of Bermuda Tifdwarf grass and has leagues, tournaments and daily tee times. Younger adults who are up for a golfing challenge may also tee off with special lower rates.

Municipal Golf Course

Treasure Bay Golf & Tennis is located just 3 miles from the center of Gulfport. It is a nine hole golf course, owned by the city of Treasure Island. Also available at the public course are tennis courts (both clay and hard courts). Tennis is available year around and guests may golf May through October.

Miniature Golf

Miniature golfers can experience their golfing adventure at Smuggler's Cove located in St. Petersburg. The miniature golf course has 18 adventurous holes that feature rushing waters, caves and waterfalls. Golfers can also visit and feed the live alligators that reside at the miniature golf course too.

Families embark on an African golfing tour at the Congo River Golf course located in Clearwater, Florida which is just about thirty minutes from Gulfport. The adventurous courses move through sparkling waterfalls, tropical rain forests, and mystic caves. Families may golf during the day as well as in the evenings. Also available for children at the Congo River Golf is an arcade, a gemstone hunt and a chance to feed live alligators.

Summary

With a variety of either public, private or even golfing for the family, there are ideal opportunities for both the experienced or even the beginning golfer. Whether it is bring your yacht after a day of tournament golfing or just getting wet from the waterfalls of miniature golfing, it should be enough to satisfy any golfer's hobby.
