Golf Courses in Eugene, Oregon

Adam Sparks
Eugene, Oregon, has a handful of public golf courses that will accommodate a variety of skill levels; from a simple, par-3 layout to a challenging, water- and tree-lined course. Here's a look at what each course has to offer:

RiverRidge Golf Complex

RiverRidge Golf Complex includes the 18-hole RiverRidge Golf Course and two nine-hole layouts - SuttonRidge and ShortRidge, both of which are located across the street from the main course.

RiverRidge Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-71 tree-lined layout that requires accuracy off the tee, particularly on the first three holes, each of which has out-of-bounds markers just off the fairway to the right. The third hole runs alongside the Willamette River, providing both picturesque views and a definitive border to the right. Water also comes into play on nine other holes, demanding accuracy on both tee and approach shots. RiverRidge has an expansive practice area, with a large driving range, putting green and two chipping greens, one of which has a practice bunker.

SuttonRidge and ShortRidge make up The NiNes at RiverRidge. SuttonRidge is a par-32 executive-style course that plays to 2,044 yards from the back tees and 1,679 from the front, and ShortRidge is a par-3 layout that is perfect for beginners, with a par of 27 and course length ranging from 639 to 839 yards.

Laurelwood Golf Course

Laurelwood Golf Course is the closest course to the University of Oregon which, combined with its budget-friendly green fees, makes it a popular destination for UO students who golf. The nine-hole layout is fairly forgiving, allowing for a bit of wildness off the tee and on approach shots on many of the holes, but what's distinctive about Laurelwood is its hilly terrain, which presents a bit of a challenge for walkers who carry their bags.

Laurelwood Golf Course plays to a length of 2,902 yards from the back tees, 2,659 from the middle tees and 2,374 from the front tees. The course has a driving range, a small chipping green and a putting green.

Oakway Golf Course

Oakway Golf Course is an 18-hole, executive-style layout in the middle of Eugene. The course is relatively wide open, with large fairways and water only in play on three holes. Accuracy is important, however, with an apartment complex and houses bordering about half of the course.

Oakway is a par-61 layout that plays to 3,576 from the back tees and 3,249 from the front. There is no driving range here, but the course does have a putting and chipping green.

Fiddler's Green Golf Course

Fiddler's Green Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-54 executive course that plays to a length of 2,378 yards. The course is flat and open, with four ponds in the middle. Fiddler's Green is best known for its impressive pro shop, which covers 13,000 square feet and sells a wide range of golf equipment, including custom-made clubs. The course also has a lighted and covered driving range, a large putting green and a chipping green.
