I took the R train to 86th Street in Brooklyn to check out my buddy's new apartment the other day. I hadn't been out there before, so I was willing to make the trek.

When I got out of the train station, the neighborhood looked like most in Brooklyn: convenience stores on every corner, dry cleaners here, Chinese food restaurants there.

I was strolling down 7th Avenue when all of a sudden, a golf ball whizzed by my head. I thought that it must have been a mistake. There's no way there could be a golf course out here. The ball must have thrown at me from a car or something.

Turns out I was wrong. Someone had shanked their drive on the 10th hole of Dyker Beach Golf Course. Yes, I was blown away. Eighteen holes of golf in the middle of Brooklyn? It can't be! A little sleuthing verified that there is a challenging and affordable 18-hole golf course in the heart of Brooklyn.

I will certainly be taking my talents (albeit minimal) to Dyker Beach Golf Course as soon as I can to get a sample of what urban golfing is all about.
