Golf Tips on How to Get More Backspin on the Golf Ball

My Version on How to Apply Back Spin to Your Golf Shots

The ability to put effective backspin is something that only very experienced players can do. However anyone can learn how to put backspin on the ball to help hit knock down shots or just help slow the ball down a little bit. There are three things that effect the spin on the ball. These include the ball position, the type of club you hit, and the ball you hit.

First we will start with the type of club. When attempting to put backspin on the golf ball you need to be using a higher lofted club. I would say the most extreme you can go and still be able to put effective spin on the ball would be a seven iron. Any lover club such as a six iron, has a little lower trajectory and travels a longer distance so its harder to make the ball stick. You also have a lot more control over lower clubs like a wedge, so therefore its easier to put spin on the ball. However it can be done using a higher club like a six or five iron, with proper ball position.

Next we will concentrate on ball position. Everyone that knows golf knows that the ball moves up in your stance as you move up in club. For example when hitting the driver the ball is in the front of your stance, while when you hit a wedge the ball is in the back of your stance. The reason it is in the back of your stance with a wedge is to place backspin on it. With the ball here you can strike down on it a little more, which creates the backspin. However when you strike down you have to make sure that you hit the ball first and take a divot. If you strike ground before ball you can only imagine where your ball is going to go.

The third and final thing that effects backspin is the ball. Certain balls are designed for spin while some are designed for distance, and still there are some that are right in the middle. Now obviously if your main goal is backspin you are going to want to use a really soft ball designed for spin. One of the best known balls is the noodle, while there are still a lot of good balls out there. Now with that said I am going to go off topic a little bit. There can be a downside to choosing a very soft ball. This is obvious when you think about it. A soft ball puts more spin on the ball. However sometimes the spin is not what we want it to be. Sometimes you will get spin that will make the ball slice or do other unwanted things. So when deciding how you want to attack the links, and whether or not you want a lot of backspin you will have to decide the proper ball for you.

Perfect backspin is something that can only be achieved by the best of golfers, but anyone can put spin on the ball. To do so one must decide on the type of club they are going to use, the position of the ball, and the type of ball. All of these have a huge effect on the amount of backspin you can create.
