Things like exercise and nutrition are important in life. Truly fit people work out and watch what they eat. They probably take supplements depending on their needs. They might even develop a spiritual life to ease the soul and some are becoming aware of the mind body link. But if you worry too much about your health, it can be a detriment to your health. You simply have to do the right things and have faith that it is working.
Just like the body doesn't live on bread alone, our minds do not live well on thought alone. Sometimes you need to turn of the worry and just be more positive. Feed your soul with nurturing literature. Don't watch too much negative TV. I know, its hard, but TV is a waste of time. You could be gardening, or dancing, or doing any hobby that brings you joy. My aunt barely watches TV. She has so much more important things to do.
Jesus said don't worry about what you eat. In fact not worrying is a good motto. But in his time, they ate lentils and whole wheat and lamb and dates and figs. Not a lot wrong there. But today, we have supersized artery clogging food and everyone is brainwashed by the media to think a Happy Meal really will make them happy.
There is a myth out there that fat people are jolly. They are emotionally tied up around food. They put on a facade to hide their pain. They want to look normal but are afraid of failure so they never try. I was miserable at a size 18-20. I have since lost four dress sizes and I never want to go back. I simply adopted new habits that were bearable and made improvements as I went. I know that fit people can sometimes eat a lot of junk and get away with it.
But I know I am sensitive to what goes into my body, so I try to eat more natural foods and healthful foods. Back in Jesus's time, everything was pretty much all natural. And I think he was referring to the classier people who dined on rich foods, and he was telling them not to dwell on that.
Being an Epicure is not a lifestyle for Christians. We are to eat to live, not live to eat. It can take some changes in attitude and being humble to God's wisdom. But you will look better and feel better and not have problems with weight and the related diseases. Sloth and Gluttony are two big sins these days. And advertising is partly to blame.
We are inundated with messages that food will cure our problems. Make us happy, be our bliss. But being spiritual and listening to wisdom is true bliss. Learning from mistakes and turning your failures into successes is true reward. Don't reward yourself with food, it just relates an emotional message to food. Listen to some music, get a massage, take a bubble bath. Just learn to breath better. It will all work out.
Maybe you need faith that your workout will bear fruit. It will come if you stick at it and eat right and diligently but gently work out at your best.
