Good Luck Needed After a Week of Bad Luck

Sunshine Wilson
Last Sunday morning I attempted to open up the sliding glass door which leads out to the back deck. The handle broke off in my hand. Pushing against the glass with great difficulty, I finally got the door opened. I called my handyman to come over. It was a small inconvenience and easily fixed. But little did I know that it was the beginning of a week of bad luck to come.

Later on that day, more bad luck came my way as I discovered a leak in the water pipe going from the street to my house. I called my plumber, who came over to fix it.

On Monday, I encountered some more bad luck. I drove my mother to a doctor's appointment. When her appointment was over, we returned to the parking lot to find that my car had a flat tire. I sent my mother back to wait in the doctor's air conditioned waiting room while I changed the tire in the 90 degree hot sun of Atlanta.

On Tuesday, my garage door would not open. My handyman came back over and found that two wires had become disconnected from the motor. More bad luck, but I am keeping the handyman in business!

On Wednesday evening, one of the pine trees in my front yard decided to fall down. Luckily, it did not land on a house or car or anything, but it did land partially in the street. Two of my neighbors came over with chain saws and cut the tree into small logs.

Thursday was uneventful and I was beginning to think my run of bad luck was over.

But on Friday, it seems the bad luck had returned. A friend of mine, who rescues dogs, asked me if I would pick up a rescue dog located 20 miles or so north of Atlanta. As I was returning to Atlanta with the rescue dog, my car overheated. I called my towing insurance company and I waited along, with the rescue dog, under the shade of a nearby tree for the tow truck to arrive. When the tow truck arrived an hour later, the driver informed me that he would not allow the dog to ride in the cab area with me. So I had to call someone to pick up me and the rescue dog. Additionally, my mechanic's workplace, where I wanted the car to be towed, was outside my towing insurance's ten mile limit. I was forced to pay an extra mileage charge.

Today is Saturday and I am home waiting for my mechanic to finish repairing my car. Other than almost going into shock when I found out how much it will cost to fix my car, the day has been uneventful as far as bad luck goes. But the day is still young.

Although all of the occurrences described above were upsetting and stressful, not to mention expensive and time consuming, each one could have been worse. I am thankful that none of these incidents of bad luck involved any injury to me, any of my friends, my family or my dogs.

If anyone has any good luck, please send it to me; I need it. Better yet, if you have time, just send a little prayer my way.
