Why has it for decades coffee's gotten no respect and constant bad press for causing cancer, developing an ulcer or getting a heart attack? That's because they were not supported on scientific fact. Thankfully that has been changing for the better. However, moderation is still the key when one can drink up to three cups of coffee to begin experiencing these remarkable health benefits. Recently there was good news regarding a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, that involved over 50,000 women during a 10-year period. From their findings they saw an association between those who drank coffee was 15 percent less likely to develop depression.

What's even more refreshing there's been other positive news reported about drinking coffee over the last decade. In August 2004 from an issue of "Harvard Women's Health Watch" they uncovered other health benefits for coffee drinkers such as a lower risk of type 2 diabetes; reducing the risk of gallstones, liver disease for people at risk and Parkinson's disease as well as discouraging the development of colon cancer. No longer a myth, coffee can improve endurance for physical activities and to help you stay alert. Who would of thought coffee can actually be healthy for you?

Now there's even more.to drink about for coffee lovers. Published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease from Psychology Today it stated women who drink three cups per day lost less brain tissue called "white matter" based on MRI brain scans. Health prevention is certainly crucial, so drinking coffee is now taking on a whole new light. Before, you would feel guilty drinking coffee, because you were told it's bad for you. Now you can mention these encouraging health studies instead.

Here's some food for thought the next time you get a cup of coffee. Finland and Sweden have the most coffee consumption in the world. Maybe that is one reason they are so healthy. The U.S. ranked at number 8. It is no surprise Seattle has the most coffee shops in the nation. 65% of all coffee is consumed in the mornings during breakfast. Men and women on average drink 1.6 cups per day. An average size of a coffee cup is 9 ounces. It's no wonder there are more convenient coffee establishments these days, because by drinking at least 2-3 cups per day you may be reducing the risk of depression and other health concerns.
