The trouble start when I sit down. My cats are lazy by nature and being surrounded by so many isn't helping. The moment they see that I put on my slippers, make a coffee and are heading for the couch it becomes clear that they've been watching me all the time with one eye open. And these 5 hairy psychologists have perfect timing as to when I want to sit down.
Draped with 5 of these fluffy hot water bottles around me I quickly doze off, while Dr.Phil talks on about various problems of people who are more than awake. But this is understandable. After all, I am at home, where things are comfortable. But how come I nod off at the weirdest places?
I must have been the only person on earth to have fallen asleep in a Dentist-chair. Admittedly the chair was made of nice soft leather. Also he had the most boring painting on the wall (and there was something wrong with the perspective of the thing, which sort of hypnotized me), and Vivaldi was playing in the background. He was momentarily called away and I fell asleep for 30 minutes to be woken by a rather amused Dentist. No doubt he's using this event in all his ads: " My patients are so relaxed they fall asleep".Well the drill certainly woke me up later.
I even fell asleep once on a bed of a downstairs department store. When I woke up there were people staring at me through the windows. The saleslady said she didn't want to wake me up because customers thought I was hired by the store to show how good their mattresses were.
I also sleep in trains, cars, buses, planes, to be woken up in a completely strange country . Of course I know where I'm going when I leave, but not always where I am when I wake up. This has caused a couple of problems, because sometimes I missed connections and ended up somewhere else where the locals spoke a different language from what I expected. All because I overslept and went over borders without realizing. It sure makes for adventurous traveling. It also takes a lot of time to get where I was going in the first place without falling asleep again, and thus more or less traveling around the world just to get to work a few miles away.
I blame all this napping on a book I read years ago, about relaxation techniques. After reading the contents thoroughly I duly did all the exercises and became as calm as a Buddhist monk. For a long time I was absolutely serene and I lived a life devoid from stress. Unfortunately I became so calm that I was asleep most of the day.
However, the folks at various companies like the Bank, the Phone company and the Electricity company never read this book and that became glaringly apparent after a while. Their minds were still stressed-out, mainly because of customers like me, who were so cool and calm, and not paying bills because they slept through the day. "Waiting to pay your bills"? They yelled on the phone."Are you mad"?
So as to not stress out the rest of the world, I added a bit on mine, again. Just to pay my bills and the like. There could be such a thing as being too relaxed.

Post a CommentI was asleep when I wrote the comment. I should have written: "I am the exact opposite." hehe By the way, do you have any slideshows here?
My brother can fall asleep in two minutes. I am the exact the opposite. He suffers from hypertension and I don't. Figure that one out. Best wishes Mary-Jane.
I am sleeping already :)
I fall asleep as a passenger in a car, and on airplanes. Great article.
Great article. I wish I had those abilities. My mind constantly runs and doesn't like to shut off, the doctor's work with me on it. I am not one to enjoy taking medications, however I will when I can't get more than three hours of sleep during the week. Thanks for a wonderful read. It actually relaxed me as I read it.
