My girlfriend and I always send emails to each other. She lives in New York and I live in Baltimore. We have been friends since we were roommates in college. We have both been through so much and it is always nice to have someone to share your memories with. We have shared our marriages, having children, careers, moving into new homes, deaths of our parents, births of grandchildren (for her, me I am still hoping), children going to college and our children getting married.
We reminisce and enjoy each other's sense of humor. We were sharing emails the other day talking about things from our childhoods. So do you remember the Good Ole Days when:
It took five minutes for the TV to warm up?
When you got home from school your Mom was there to greet you because she was a housewife and didn't have to work?
When we were young and were given fifty cents for an allowance and it was a lot of money?
Do you remember when nylons were held up by a garter belt?
When you went to school and your male teachers had to wear ties and the women teachers wore skirts or dresses everyday?
Do you remember when you could buy a box of laundry detergent and there was a free dishtowel tucked within the powder?
Do you remember when it was a treat and a privilege to be taken out to dinner in a real restaurant with your parents?
Do you remember vinyl records and 45's listening to the Beatles in your bedroom with your best friend?
Do you remember when you were young and going steady, then going to that special place to watch the submarine races?
When you went to the gasoline station to get a fill up, someone actually came to your car and pumped your gas for you, checked your oil, washed your windshield, then gave you trading stamps for purchasing your gasoline? Hell do you remember when gasoline only cost 25 cents a gallon?
With all of our progress today, technology and advances sometimes I wish that I could have transported my child back to my youth so that he could experience my relatively good ole days. I certainly hope that when he has children of his own that he can tell them about his "Good Ole Days" .....
