Today a man came in the shop that had picked up his vehicle a couple of weeks ago. He had came back to give me a pet carrier that he no longer needed. Why would a complete stranger just hand over a pet carrier? He had actually heard me talking, well actually ranting and raving, a couple of weeks ago of how someone actually stole our pet carrier. My question is who steals a pet carrier?
We had actually figured out who did it. It was a child that lives in the neighborhood. Great neighborhood huh? We are talking about a $15 pet carrier. I couldn't imagine why anyone would steal a pet carrier that is under $20 at Wal-mart. I figured whoever the person was obviously needed the pet carrier more than we did if he or she had to steal it.
Well, now today there is a good hearted man that didn't need his pet carrier any longer and he was going to throw it away. Instead of throwing away the carrier he brought it to me knowing I needed one. That was actually a kind act that was done with nothing expected in return.
I don't really believe in people being good but I guess I was wrong for today. Someone did a kind act for someone else because they had what someone else needed. Hopefully this one won't be stolen too.
There are other people that give things to be reused. Some of them can be found on a Yahoo group called freecycle. Yahoo groups has a group called freecycle. Most areas have their own freecycle group. Go to Yahoo Groups and type in Freecycle. You put in your state and city and the groups are listed for you.
Freecycle is an organization so the landfills aren't filled up with unnecessary objects and objects get used and reused. They specify that the freecycle group isn't a way to get stuff and resale it. If you are caught doing this they kick you off the group and don't let you rejoin any freecycle. People give away all kinds of things from pens and pencils to furniture. Some of the stuff isn't in the greatest shape and probably should have been put in the dumpster. Other things are in great shape and just need a new home.
This should restore your faith in people. All these people are giving out of the goodness of their hearts not expecting anything in return. Quick someone call Oprah so the whole thing can be exploited.
