Your place of work is threatening to go under and off course you don't want to wait there until you are handed a letter, stating that the company has folded. If you notice that the company is losing customers, money and there is talk of possible closure, here is the best time to hand in your two weeks notice.
You should quit your present job if your pay check cannot cover your current expenses i.e. you bought a car, have a new baby etc. You should consider looking for a job that can cover your current expenses and still have some money left over to put in your savings account.

If certain company laws don't go down well with you, then you can quit your job and look for a company that you are in-sync with. For example, if your company have certain dress codes that you find unsatisfactory, you should look for a job in a company that has flexible dress codes.
