Of all the places in the world, Florida has some of the best-known golf courses, and better yet, golf season is nearly 365 days a year. With some award winning courses, even if you don't enjoy golf, you'll certainly enjoy the company. And if you've never played a game before, there are plenty of people willing to teach even the more seasoned amateurs.

Florida is nothing but beaches. Surrounding all three sides, you'll have your choice of gulf water or ocean water, and the more south you go, the whiter the sands and the blue the oceans. Getting to know the area, you'll find where the crowds aren't so you will have more space to run. A personal favorite is Palm Beach's own white sands and blue waters, perfect for feeling like you're far away on a tropical island.

If you are looking for some new friends, they are already there, with plenty of time off for some fun. People in Florida who are retired are no longer in a hurry to get anywhere, so feel free to kick back and take in some lemonade as you get to know your neighbors.

Florida has some of the best affordable housing, as long as you are not planning on living right on the beach. Retirement communities are highly affordable and some are even considerate to moderate budgets. Forget the heating bill, it only gets cold enough for a light jacket in some areas for about a month or two. Some of the best parts about Florida housing are that your house is always increasing in value. Buying now lets you sell hirer down the road.

When the grandkids come to play, or you are ready to vacation, your choices are easier when you live within driving distance of an assortment of major theme parks. People living in Florida get local's only discounts when it comes to certain theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios.

If you have lived up north most of your working life, you'll appreciate the warmer weather most of the year in Florida. Imagine summer fun lasting most of the year. With winter only lasting a couple of months, there's more time to play outdoors.

If you love historical culture, try visiting old St. Augustine, which has some of the best tourist attractions for people who love to learn about the olden days. There's a fort, an old market place and many gardens to explore.

In addition, places like St. Petersburg offers a wonderful zoo, with aquatic animal exhibits, elephant rides and much more. Pet a stingray and take a walk on the wild side with tigers and bears. Kids can enjoy a cool dip in a splash pool and fountain designed for fun. Retired couples, of course, get special discounts or you can purchase year round tickets and get notified on special events. Don't forget to visit the special manatee exhibit!

Because many people retire to Florida, businesses like restaurants and apartment communities pay special attention to your needs.
