Good Seasons Light Honey Dijon Salad Dressing with Grey Poupon Mustard

Great as a Dip for Chicken or French Fries

Americans consume a lot of lettuce. In fact, in 2004, total lettuce consumption reached a record high of 34.5 pounds per person. Most of the lettuce we eat comes in the form of salads. Whether we purchase pre-made salads or whole heads of lettuce, we consume more lettuce than most people would ever think possible. Of course, no salad is complete without salad dressing.

Most people tend to go toward the basic flavors of ranch, French, Italian or a variation of these. Occasionally there are those who venture outside their comfort zone to try the new and inventive. Recently I had an opportunity to try one of these new flavors of salad dressing and found it to be rather interesting.

It all started when I was standing among the plethora of selections in the local supermarket. I was tired of the same boring ranch variations and was ready to try something new. The bottle that caught my eye proudly proclaimed it was new and practically begged me to take it home. Unable to resist, I purchased the 14-ounce bottle of Good Seasons Light Honey Dijon Reduced Fat Dressing with Grey Poupon Mustard.

The first impression upon opening the bottle was the smell. It had a very strong mustard scent but you could also detect some sweetness in the background. The consistency of this salad dressing was perfect. I hate salad dressings that are super runny and those that are gloppy. This was just right as it was about the same consistency as a French dressing rather than a Ranch dressing. The color of the Good Seasons Light Honey Dijon Reduced Fat Dressing with Grey Poupon Mustard is tan with small flecks of mustard seed throughout. The taste was very different from other salad dressings. The first taste you encounter is the sweetness of the honey. The sweetness is followed by a strong kick of mustard taste that is very reminiscent of Grey Poupon and other spicy mustards. This taste is the taste that lingers in your mouth rather than the honey taste.

All in all, this dressing left a good impression on me. I am not sure that I like it as an actual dressing to top my salad. The mustard might be a bit strong for that. However, it works great as a dip for chicken or could be a substitute for ketchup on French fries.

Good Seasons Light Honey Dijon Reduced Fat Dressing with Grey Poupon Mustard has 60 calories per two tablespoon serving which is much less than other salad dressings on the market.

I was told that this product was discontinued. I bought every bottle they had a Kroger last year and am now down to half of the last bottle. I don't use it as salad dressing. It makes the best marinade I have ever had. Add some teriyaki sauce and minced garlic for the best grilled pork chops or chicken you ever tasted.
