Good Things About Myspace

S. Sams
There are some really good things about Myspace. A lot of what we read is about safety on Myspace and the internet in general. Those are topics that need to be discussed. But for adults who know how to be safe and responsible Myspace can be a really great place.

The best thing is that it's all free. Free to make a profile and free to upload and host pictures and videos. You can have an unlimited amount of both. You also have complete control over your profile there. You can set your profile to private, meaning no one but those you have added as friends can see it.

You don't have to go for the splashy backgrounds and crazy loud music you see on some profiles. You can edit your own background, using simple colors or photos of your own. You don't have to have music on your profile but if you want it, it's easy to set up. You set whether it starts playing automatically when someone views your page or they have to manually start the music. You don't have to have the slide shows either.

While Myspace is certainly geared towards a younger crowd, other people may make use of the network as well. Consider not having to have a photo or video hosting account to share pictures. Not having to email a huge list every time you want to share the new school photos of the kids. Or post blogs for all your friends to read about changes in your life.

Of course if your profile is private the users you want to see the photos will need to have created accounts of their own and be added as your friend. Unless you want to leave your profile open for the world to see. In which case you can set your name and email address as 'unsearchable'. Still, you're taking a chance that anyone can see your profile. However if a group of people wanted to share blogs, photos and messages with each other, Myspace offers a place to do so that can be very private.

Considering setting up Grandma a Myspace profile and showing her how to login. Add her as a friend and she can see photos of the kids as you upload them! The Myspace layout is simple enough that once used awhile it becomes second nature to maneuver. It can be a handy tool for extended families to keep in touch with one another or groups of friends that live in different parts of the world. You're only as far away as your Myspace!
