Once the tunnel between the Lawrence Street and the Jay Street-Borough Hall stations is completed in Downtown Brooklyn, the stations will get new names. The new name will be "Jay Street-MetroTech" rather than Borough Hall.
The soon-to-be-completed tunnel will give commuters new connections between trains. The name change is just to make things more accurate since the Jay Street subway station is closer to MetroTech than Borough Hall.
The tunnel project has been ongoing since 2007 and there is no official timelines from the city for its completion. Right now, the only inclination that locals have that it might be nearing the end is all the green tape hiding "MetroTech" throughout the Jay Street station.
