Goodbye to Guiding Light

Denise
When I first heard that Guiding Light was going to end, I was not devastated. I started watching the soap at the time India was married to Phillip Spaulding. I think...that he put her in jail for something. Yeah, that long ago. The past few years, the story lines did not sit well with me, and the past couple years really got on my nerves because they killed off Gus(Ricky Paull Goldin), Coop Cooper(John Driscoll), and I hated that they killed off Tammy(Stephanie Gatschet) and made that sexy Jonathan(Tom Pelphrey) leave town!

Just Too Weird
The weird parts that I remember is when Reva went in the past through a mirror. Reva and her clone was another one, sheesh! I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, GL fans, but, wasn't one actress that played the young Reva clone turn into Mara later on....or was it Michelle Bauer? Who knows, and right now, it doesn't even matter.

What I Hated
The latest loose ends I didn't like was when Grady(Kane Manera) was killed by Phillip Spaulding(Grant Aleksander) and nobody cared but Cyrus(Murray Bartlett) and Susan' Daisy' Lamay(Bonnie Dennison). Daisy gave up on him, thinking he left her, and Cyrus searched to no avail. Later we found out, he was never really Grady's brother, Cooper Bradshaw was. Cyrus Jenna's son...go figure!

Who I Wanted To See Come Back At The End
I'm really angry, that Thursday, a day before Guiding Light was to end, we see a scene where Jeffrey O'Neill(Bradley Thomas Cole) has a clear shot of Edmund Winslow(David Andrew Macdonald) and this guy stops him, beats him up and Jeffrey and Edmund have a few final parting words. The next day, you don't see them. A year goes by and he never returns. Other characters I wanted to see back was: Beth Ehlers(Harley), Rusty and Hawk. It didn't happen, oh well. Oh, yeah, what about Reva's sister Roxy? She still remained crazy all of these years, and Reva never mentioned her again. Cassie didn't come back either, which I thought was dumb. What about Father Ray?(George Alvarez) you would have thought that he would have welcomed Danny and Michelle back home!

The King Is Dead
When Alan Spaulding(Ron Raines) died, I couldn't believe it! After all he had done in Springfield, the big bad wolf was finally gone. He had a bad heart, so I guess it was to be expected, but at least he did change in the end. I was glad when Billy Lewis(Jordan Clarke) made a toast to Alan saying that he was a hero. That was really cool. I think it was good that he died, because, Phillip and Beth(Beth Chamberlain) were going to get married again. Also, not to mention, Jonathan would not have anything to worry about anymore.

My favorite Bad Guy
Hands down, it was Edmund Winslow. I know he was very, very bad, but he was still, oh so sexy and I will be keeping up on his whereabouts, you can bet on that.

Guiding Light Hotties
Jonathan, Edmund, James, Cyrus, Remy, Matt and Bill.

My Favorite Characters Past and Present
Dinah Marler, Reva Shane O'Neill, Remy and Christina Boudreau, Harley Cooper, Gus Aitoro, Jeffrey O'Neill, India, Alan Spaulding, Ashlee, Tammy, Vanessa, Buzz, Jenna, Fletcher, Dahlia Crede, Ben Warren, Jesse Blue, Roger Thorpe, Nadine Cooper, Eleni Andros(Melina Kanakaredes), Drew Jacobs, Carmen Santos, Annie Dutton, Dr. Noah Chase, Hart Jessup, Eden August, Vicky Spaulding, Amanda Spaulding, Maureen, Nola, HB,
Dylan, Chelsea Reardon, Alan-Michael Spaulding(The original), Johnny Bauer, Gilly Grant, Maeve Reade, Jackson Freemont, Cameron Stuart, Selena, Adrian 'Sugar' Hill(Taye Diggs), Lizzy Spaulding, James Spaulding, Beth, Cooper Bradshaw, Christos, Bridget, Lillian's sister and neice(can't remember!)A guy who fell in love with Lillian's neice(I think he was a friend of Alexandra's) and any whom I may have forgotten over the years, thanks for entertaining me.

The End
I was happy that Mel Boudreau(Yvonna Kopacz Wright) hooked up with Cryus Foley. She was so, to put it nicely, square throughout the soap. I'm glad she finally let her hair down and was down to earth, and playful. I love the love scene they had, the day before it ended. I'm happy that Christina and Remy(Karla Mosley and Lawrence Saint-Victor) got married for real-finally and she was pregnant. I'm glad Matt(Kurt McKinney) got a hook-up through his daughter; Michelle and Danny and their kids returned home; Fletcher Reed came back; Mindy came back and hooked up with Rick; Dinah(Gina Tognoni) and A.C. Mallot(Robert Bogue) were together; Ashlee(Caitlin Von Zandt) and Daisy went away to college together and James Spaulding(Zack Conroy) told Daisy that he loved her.
Elizabeth Keifer(Blake) and Frank(Frank Dicopoulos) were together. I loved it when the gang all came to spy on who he was dating! Ed Bauer and Holly going on a trip around the world; Oh, and most importantly, I loved that a year later Rafe(E. J. Bonilla) came home.

Josh And Reva
O.K. I was just a tad bit disappointed that Josh and Reva (with Colin) drove away together at the end. I thought that what she had with Jeffrey O'Neill was real. I didn't like how Josh treated her when he was in jail-using her like a toy. I never forgave him for that, so I wasn't happy they were back together again. Sorry to all those Guiding Light fans who always wanted Josh and Reva to be together forever. I guess it was appropriate, though, like Alan Spaulding dying.

I'm satisfied that Guiding Light canceled, they were on far too long in my opinion. I have survived other soaps ending. Ryan's Hope, Texas and Loving all passed away, so why not this one? I think with better writers, it may have survived. If the writing was so great, the ratings would not have been low. Killing off favorite characters, or sending them away put the final nails in the coffin for them. Anyway, that's my final word on it. So long, farewell and rest in peace.
