While on vacation in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Central New York, I had to get back to reality and do some routine car maintenance. We have a 2004 Toyota Sienna and I was due for an oil change. Lately my oil changes have all occurred while out of state and my last experience in Florida was a major disappointment since I drove away from that feeling like a swindled tourist (see my blog " Feeling scammed but can't do anything now" on MasonMetu). But here in Auburn, NY it was the opposite experience.

My Dad found a coupon for an oil change at the local Goodyear Auto Service Center. We stopped by and made an appointment and the Goodyear salesman got us in that afternoon. I had a good impression right from the start due to the courteous & friendly staff. After we dropped off the van, we headed to the quaint town of Skaneateles for lunch, shopping and sightseeing. While I was enjoying the view of the crystal-clear lake, Goodyear gave me a call and the service technician explained that my van was out of alignment and wanted to know if I wanted that service as well. Even though this was not what I originally anticipated doing, I felt like I could really trust the Goodyear guys. He was not pushy and logically explained that the digital alignment test showed that the car was out of alignment. If you have a car that is out of alignment, it can easily end up damaging your tires which can be a more costly expense in the future. After consulting with the "old wise one", my Dad, I agreed to the alignment.

We thought we would be back in time to pick up my van but since strawberry and raspberry picking at Burrell's Navarino Orchard took precedence, I called to see if it would be okay to pick up the van the next morning. Once again, the Goodyear guy was very polite and friendly and he even said he'd pull the van inside the shop for the night.

When I picked up the van the next morning, the first thing I noticed was that my van was backed in so the front was facing out to make it easier for me to pull out of the lot - nice touch. When I entered the store, I was greeted with a kind hello and smile. Bill F., the store manager, showed me the digital alignment test and I was glad they discovered the problem. Even though I used a coupon for the oil change, he asked if I had the coupon flyer with me since there was an additional coupon for the alignment and he gave me that discount as well since they were considered two separate transactions. That is the epitome of good customer service.

I'll have to coordinate my oil change for next summer with our visit to Auburn since I'd love to be a repeat Goodyear customer to this particular store. These Goodyear guys have also restored my faith in oil-changes in foreign lands (a.k.a. out of state). Goodyear also sells tires and performs scheduled maintenance on all types of cars by ASE-Certified Technicians. I hope the Goodyear guys in Ohio can replicate the great customer service I received in Auburn, NY.
