Goody's Family Clothing to Close 69 Stores

Maggie OLeary
If you've read many of my articles, you'll know that I'm all about saving money wherever possible. One of my favorite stores to shop at is Goody's Family Clothing. There are no stores near my current home, but whenever I go back to my hometown to visit my family, I always stop at Goody's and unburden myself of a huge chunk of my paycheck. And when I go TDY to Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, I make sure to hit up the Prattville store - it's one of Goody's larger and newer stores.

If you've never heard of Goody's, you might be wondering what all the fuss is about. Goody's offers great quality name-brand clothing, shoes and accessories for the entire family. You can also find housewares and some outdoor items at Goody's. They also offer their merchandise at very deeply discounted prices. If you check the local newspaper, or pick up a flyer at the store, you can usually find percent-off coupons. They are always running sales. And, perhaps best of all, Goody's offers a great military discount for military ID card-holders. You can't miss when you shop at Goody's.

I opened my local newspaper's website today to find that Goody's is closing 69 of their stores as part of restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. I immediately checked, and thankfully, the store in my hometown is safe. For now, anyway. A total of 108 stores will be closed, so who knows what will happen in the near future. For now, I'll continue to shop Goody's whenever I can, and support this great retail establishment. I found a list of the stores that will be closing from Goody's website at www.shopgoodys.com. You might want to visit that website and locate a store near you. If you are near any of the stores listed below, you'll definitely want to check out the store's liquidation sales. Happy shopping!

How can I access my account?

I agree, Janice. I just heard yesterday that they are closing ALL of their stores. I am nearly devastated. I will be driving about 100 miles away to the nearest store to me, to shop the clearance sales, and I will also be visiting the clearance sales at the store in my hometown in Indiana next week!

I think it is totally sad that Goody's is closing because they have the best clothes and people shop there all the time. I buy there all the time. This is just a total disapointment!

This news sucks. My store is closing - they have offered to move me, but I don't want to go anywhere. Guess I can get a job next door at WalMart to get me the rest of the way through college.

Yes i agree in fact the goodys that closed near my house was right across from where Walmart

Yeah - I'm pretty sure they will end up closing the store in my hometown, but thankfully there is another, better store about 30 minutes up the road, so all is not lost.

Oh no!!! My husband discovered Goody's because there's one near my Mom's in Seymour, IN. He gets most ALL of his clothes there. I am so glad that store is not on the list to close!

I have been working part time for Goody's for over five years (high school and college) and am now at my third location, after transferring colleges to Valdosta, Georgia. I previously worked at the Mobile, AL location and occasionally did "under the table" work for the Springdale Mall location, which is on the list of stores to close. It honestly does not surprise me to see Goody's lose to competition such as Khol's, Sears, JC Penny and Dillard's stores. In case you wanted to know, there is a "inside rumor" that the Valdosta, GA location I am currently at will also be closing down, but no concrete word from our District Manager as of yet. Great article!

I shopped often at Goody's when I lived in Chattanooga. I'm betting the chain is another victim of that dreaded scourge of American shopping, Wal-Mart.

I was surprised to hear about this. I liked Goody's because I could find pants long enough there!
