Goody's Restaurant in St. Charles, Illinois: A Review

Brad Kamer
There is a fast food restaurant located at 1022 Lincoln Highway in St. Charles, Illinois called Goody's. Goody's serves up your typical Chicago suburb fast food fare. They offer Burgers, Gyros, Hot Dogs, Italian Beef, and a variety of other dishes. They even have dinner themed meals such as Greek Chicken, Spaghetti, Chicken Parmesan, and even barbecue ribs. The food is very tasty and the prices are fair with some chicken and ribs combination meals running at about nine dollars.

The Restaurant

The restaurant is a renovated old Hardees store that has square dimensions with three of the four sides having window exposure to Lincoln highway and a mall behind it. These three sides all have deep dining booths along the perimeter. The customers have the opportunity to watch television while they are eating or even see classic cars in the parking lot during occasional weeknights during the summer season. The condiments and drink fountains are self serve on an island just away from the service counter. The restaurant is opened for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week with a handy drive thru feature available.

Top Menu Offerings

I have been to this restaurant a number of times and will say the food is quite tasty and I have enjoyed just about all the food. I did order a few items that I was not overly excited about. For example, the barbecue rib and chicken combination was satisfactory at best. I felt as though the ribs were dunked in a very sugary barbecue sauce that made open pit look like a blue ribbon winner. I also thought the ribs were a little on the fatty side. The other downside is the soda fountain offering up goody's brand pop. Not sure what it is, but I wasn't too crazy about the generic cola. I usually stick with the brewed iced tea when dining in.

There are some menu offerings that I highly recommend. The Italian beef is one of the best I have ever tasted as the beef is packed into a roll in very generous proportions. I will usually opt for such topping as melted mozzarella and hot peppers for my sandwich. This cheesy beef far exceeds those sold by Portillo's and Buona Beef.

The other great secret at Goody's is the beer battered cod. I usually get this in the winter time on Friday's. The fish basket comes with a few golden pieces of cod, choice of potato, cole slaw, and a bowl of clam chowder soup. The meal runs just under ten bucks, but the fish is outstanding. Our whole family takes part in the fish fry during lent with my kids splitting an order.

Catering

Goody's also delivers excellent catering. We used them a few years back for a party and ordered the Italian beef, Greek chicken, mostacolli, and garden salad. The price came out to about $5.50 per head and the food was outstanding. The goody's employees were very helpful loading up my car and double checking to make sure I had everything. They even worked with us on our pricing as we were competing with other catering avenues locally. I would recommend Goody's for catering and for your quick bite to eat.
