Google Adsense: Computer Literacy and Direct Deposit

Google Adsense is not just for nerds. Now anyone who has a website can financially support it by hosting pay-per-click ads that are relevant to the theme of your site (no worries about crude skin shots on your inspirational website!). And all you need to be able to do is to websurf! Google Adsense is extremely user friendly, and its support website is comprehensive.

It begins when you sign up: there are prompts for every step in the process. Once you have signed up, it will take a day or two for Google to approve your account. While you're waiting, carefully scrutinize the program policies -- you did read them before signing up, didn't you?

Seriously, you must read them carefully. Make sure your site conforms to the program policies -- and use good judgment. For instance, Google's program policies forbid "excessive profanity," rather than forbidding profanity altogether. If you are not sure that the language on your site contains "excessive profanity," you probably shouldn't sign up. Also, make sure every link on your site is working!

Once you have figured out that your site meets the program policies, you can check out the support site. You will probably find a lot of interesting information in the Adsense forms at Google Groups.

How do I get paid?

In 16 countries, electronic funds transfer or ETF is available; your money goes right to your bank account. They'll even do the currency conversion for you. The support site at Google Adsense lists the countries participating in this option. As soon as your application is approved, you will be able to sign up. You do this by clicking the edit link right beside the payment header. Once you fill out your banking information, you will have to wait a few days for Google Adsense to deposit a few cents into your account, just to make sure the money is going to the right place.

Within a few days, that little test deposit will post to your account. As soon as you receive the deposit, log into your Google account, go to the Payment Detail section, and click Verify Account. Follow the prompt to enter the amount of Google Adsense's test deposit. Until you complete this step, no more money will be deposited in your account, although it will be waiting for you at Google. As soon as you complete this step, the money will be flowing in, so why wait?
