Google Social Search - This is Not BUZZ!
Google Search Results Are Beginning to Be Tailored to My "social Circle" - is This New?
In October 2009, Google announced release of the very fresh, new product respectively named Google Social Search (well, there ya go!) ... Google Social Search attempts to aggregate all of the information about your network that its capable of retrieving, and then uses that information to give you a personalized search experience. COOL, RIGHT?
How do we use the Google Social Search Results Feature?
"To make use of Google Social Search, users need to have a Google Profile and be logged into it when they are performing a search in Google.
Google uses your lists of connections from the following sources to determine who is in your social network:
FriendFeed
Feeds you are Following in Google Reader
Gmail contacts
Youtube
Sites you have listed in your Google Profile
Twitter
It also steps beyond that by indexing not only your direct connections, but also your friend's connections.
I totally missed this last OCTOBER 2009! "How I stumbled upon it just TODAY is discussed below"
First Off, Did we see this coming? Everything on the net practically revolves around two primary entities:
1. Google
2. Social Media
We COULD have easily spotted this coming, with all of the web FIVE. zero stuff *teeheehee (exaggeration ... you know what I mean) ... Google, "Yearning To Rule Everything" would "of course" have something in store for integrating social media. This is social media integration right into the search results. You've Got to Be Kidding Me? I mean, its really cool, and who knows? Maybe I have all of these trends back buttwards. Either way, there are some downsides to this Google Social Search Results Function. Let's discuss those now.
"This Is how I stumbled across this Google Social Search Results Feature" MONTHS LATER!!! TODAY!
See, the thing is that last night I spent hours trying to access all of my google accounts in order to optimize the profiles that were showing up in Google search for "Curtis Bizelli", "Curt Bizelli" and "Curtis Hammack" ... I ended up finding at least FOUR Google accounts and it took me hours to locate the proper login details for each account in order to tweak my results via the profiles, but nonetheless I finally declared victory at wee hours in the morning, getting it accomplished!
NOTE: I followed myself between Google accounts! WHOA! Maybe I shouldn't have done this!
Because ... Now, Today, I'm receiving listings from my own sites at the bottom of the first Google search results page under, "My Social Circle".
What are the problems with this?
I am a web publisher.
When I search for a term I'm trying to rank my site for, I don't know if Google is showing me my site because I'm connected to myself via multiple Google accounts OR if it is a legitimate indexing. Its important for us web publishers and developers to know what we are ranking for.
On a side note: A few really great tools for web publishers and developers I've found and use are Link Extend Firefox Plug-in, Wordtracker Firefox Plug-in and RankChecker Firefox Plug-in from www.SEOBook.com - Yeah, I Love Firefox! That's another article, but figured I'd share some value since I'm ranting and raving with steam flaming from my oily pours! (OK, maybe that's a little over-exaggerated!!!).
My CONLUSION on GOOGLE SOCIAL SEARCH RESULTS:
For now, I need to one, stay on top of these things better because I should have known about this in October 2009, and two, I need to unfollow myself in each Google profile.
I really hope that this will prove beneficial as I learn the google network system and their services a bit more - Please leave your comments in relation to this Google Social Search Results Feature and go to Manifest Your Dreams for Free Publicity and Social Media News, Tips and More!
