Google Takes a Stand on Racisim and Censorship

Google has made a stand in regards to racism.

The stand they have made is more than a little controversial.

Google will not censor racist or anti-Semitic content. That's for the Governments and courts to decide.

That's googles policy and it took me a few hours of thought and contemplation to decide wether this choice was for me or against me.

I practice Judaism and am more than aware of the pain and hatred that racism of any kind can create.

Apparently there is a web site called Jew Watch, the site is anti-Semitic. As I'm sure you know on the world wide web you don't have to look far to find a site that panders to any group of people. This site has managed to reach the coveted number one spot on the google search engine and this has of course increased their hits dramaticly.

Loads of people have contacted google about this and ask that they refuse to include this site on it's search engine or at least keep it out of the number one spot.

Google has declined.

As a Jew I would love to see an end to all anti-Semitic and racist rhetoric but I too realize that the way to end these things is not to censure them.

With thought and consideration I have had to ask myself this question: If I must have snakes in my home would I rather have them in the light where I can see them or hidden in the darkness where I am most vulnerable to attack? Phrased like that the answer is obvious.

So this Jew wants to applaud Abdar Shalev, and Meir Brand for their stand on freedom, even if the freedoms some choose to express seem to send the most negative and hate filler rhetoric.

Hate and negativity flourish and grow in the dark places and less traveled sites and servers of the world wide web and I want to thank google for allowing their light to shine on this toadstool that has sprung up in what can only be the most diverse and beautiful garden that the world has ever seen.

Meir Brand, is the CEO of google Israel and is an Israeli Jew who has Family that have survived the Holocaust. If he says removing results from the google search engine will not solve the problem than I believe he is 100% right.
