Google Trends Rankings: Online News Sources

Rex Banner
The question that got this research going was which online news outlet gets the most visitors. This is an off-the-cuff study, so I am sticking with major media sources. Here is my brainstorming of popular and trendy online news sources.

Reuters - BBC News - CNN - Fox News - New York Times

I'm going to keep this one small, as you are traveling through this experiment in real time.

By more than 5 million daily unique visitors and growing, BBC News is the winner. It is the fourth ranked website in the United States, but number one in the UK by an enormous margin. The United Kingdom also the highest ranked international region.

CNN is the second ranked source overall, and first in the United States. Visitors nearly double the number visiting rival Fox News.

The New York Times is second overall, and second in the United States in unique visitors.

Fox News is the fourth most visited source worldwide. It is the third most visited website in the US.

Reuters is watched most in the United States of any country, but is the lowest ranked of these sources in the U.S. It is the most visited of the sources in Japan and China. It is the fifth ranked website overall.

That's the run-down. I'll be doing more of these when something strikes me.

All results from Google Trends.

I find the fact that FOX news is so well visited a rather sobering if not disturbing fact. I find the absence of AC or YAHOO completely unsurprising.
