Google vs. Overture: A Quick Comparison

Comparison Between Google and Overture

There are so many adverting sites present on the Internet at present. But the very first website to create and actually succeed with advertising on the Internet was Google ads. And with constant innovations and tweaks it has managed to ensure that it retains its high place in the Internet marketing world. At present, there are thousands of other sites that make and promote online marketing for websites. One such site is Overture. This site too has been around for several years and it offers wonderful variants of the Google Ads. Before you actually take on any ad though do take a look at what a quick comparison of Google Ads and Overture throws up-

Speed and setting up:

Both sites are equally great at setting up accounts and the entire process can take a few minutes. Google does it a wee bit faster though and as soon as you set up an account and select the listings; the ad is up. Overture runs you through two options called as Express and Self serve where you may have to wait anywhere from three days with Express and three to five days with Express Self serve.

Compare start up costs:

Both are great for start up costs. Google starts with a reasonable five dollar fee that is billed monthly when the clicks are complete. But Overture may charge you a whopping $199 for the Express but with the Self serve being free. This is not really fair as the site is already charging a whopping $50 refundable deposit which is returned when the clicks are complete.

Types of listings are decided by whom:

Google has a relatively simple method of displaying ads on pages where the content is found along with the side of search results. The ads appear on the right hand side of the images and the ads are ranked depending on the clicks they get and the price your bed for it. Overture has a simple method of displaying the ads on partner sites and ads are displayed depending on the bid amounts that are placed on each keyword.

Individual cost of click:

Google can specify a maximum amount for each keyword and you do not have to pay more than that. Overture promotes direct bidding where you pay according to the highest bid you set.

Partners and affiliates programs are available:

Google has partners with AOL America and also Sympatico.ca. But the choice of appearing in these regional locations is up to you. There are affiliate programs too that you can choose to enlist in. Overture has a large affiliate enlisting and they are tied up with MSN, Yahoo!, Netscape, Alta Vista & Lycos/Hot Bot as well as many other small companies. Overture does not have affiliate programs though and you should have your own website to qualify.

Both sites Google and Overture are easy to use and I hope this comparison helps you make the right choice. We are not promoting any search engine and advertising site but do make an informed decision.
