Google Your Way to Greatness

I was working one day and a coworker referred another person to me to have their question answered by saying, "ask Geraldine, she knows everything about computers!" Over time and in different incidences with other people in new settings the sentiment followed me and remained the same. Somehow my simple and easy way of searching on the internet with Google had made me appear to be some kind of a computer guru. I did not understand it. Anybody could obtain the same results that I had when looking for any kind of information.

At one time I had no idea what a search engine was. I bought my first computer, a DOS based computer, on the Home Shopping Club. My acquaintances and I shared email and one sent out a list of great search engines. I did not know what a search engine was, how to use it in DOS and I was unfamiliar with the Windows environment. Google was not one of those introduced to me at that time. According to Wikipedia "the company was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 7th, 1998." Recently there has been concern about a government requesting for the company to reveal and provide the records of individuals' searches.

The word itself has to do with a very large number which is what you get in choices when you google a word or phrase, a large number of internet linked choices of information regarding your subject. The word itself as used in the last sentence can be a verb to represent what you do or can be a noun to represent what it is named. No other search engine does as well a job when looking for information. You can add words to your search in order to narrow down the number of results obtained for any given searched subject.

Many of the search engines used ten years ago are no longer in service. The first search engine was called Archie. Many other search engines are still in operation or have been introduced since that time. In some cases defunct web pages are turned into search engines. The names of a few search engines are Lycos, Mamma. Ask Jeeves, About, InfoSeek and AltaVista. Yahoo and MSN have their own search engines as well. One search engine named Colossus is said to be global. Overall however, in my own experience, I have found that Google is sufficient for any of my searching needs.
