Google's birthday is celebrated today, September 27. An image of a birthday cake with one candle, created by pop artist Wayne Thiebaud, appears as today's doodle for Google.

Google is king

Google, created by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, has revolutionized the Internet. Without it, how would people find what they need? It would be like searching for something in the dark. When it comes to search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing, Google is still king. As reported at News Time, "....Google is way out in front with 65.1%. in the Nielsen and 65.4% on comScore." For SEO experts and writers who build content to align well with search engines, most ignore the other search engines and put all of their focus on Google.

Today is Google's birthday, and they've been around for 12 years. But is today really their birthday? Google chooses September 27, even though Google's domain, for example, was registered on September 15.

Google it's your birthday, so make a wish. But what do we wish for from Google?

Google can sometimes be a beast for writers and SEO developers. The goal for people with content on the web is for that content to be seen. If your content can land on the first page of Google for your topic, you've succeeded in placing high on Google. Incorporating the correct keywords, or words that match the meaning of your content, became the goal for attracting Google's attention. But not everyone has success with Google, and sometimes people will stuff their content with keywords to force success. But does it work?

If you stuff your content with keywords, you're likely to get penalized from Google. As reported at Blog Highlight, "Google doesn't like keyword stuffing. If Google detects it on a web page or website, it will be banned from Google's index. And thus your web page or website will never be shown in the search engine results."

The image for Google's birthday was created by pop artist Wayne Thiebaud

Wayne Thiebaud is a pop artist born in 1920. Pop art, made famous during the 50's and 60's by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, often included mass produced objects. For example, Warhol's famous Campbell's soup can is an example. Thiebaud painted cakes, toys and even toilets.
