GOP Propaganda Desperately Attempts to Keep Its Slim Base Intact
Are Their Efforts Sabotaging Themselves?
The article "O'Reilly: There's 'No Evidence' Obama Is A Socialist But He Does Believe In 'Tyranny And Socialism'"
at
http://thinkprogress.org/2010/02/12/oreilly-obama-socialist/
must have come from the result of Ailes' crack team of misinformation masters-- O'Reilly, Rove, Beck, Limbaugh and their willing acolyte Palin working overtime. It seems like the muddle that I produce when I work too long and can't concentrate-or does it? Who is their audience? Is it the informed 90% of our population? Or is it that group that weeks before every election has no interest in the election and believes whatever the radio or TV tells them?
The article states "Last night on Fox News, Bill O'Reilly was incensed about a recent Gallup poll finding that 36 percent of Americans have a positive image of "socialism." The poll result is "simply incredible," O'Reilly declared, adding, "Can you say 'Fidel Castro'? ... It's hard to believe."
O'Reilly then said that he has seen "no evidence" that President Obama is a socialist, but that his viewers should be afraid of some Democrats in Congress who want to "impose social justice on the nation" and "seize" your house:
O'REILLY: Some Obama critics contend that he himself is a socialist, but we can find no evidence of that. Mr. Obama likes his property, and I don't believe he wants to seize my house.
However, there are people like Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont who do. And those people are stalwarts inside the Democratic Party. It is long past time for Americans to wake up. The far left in this country wants to diminish personal power and impose social justice on the nation. They want to erode our personal freedoms in order to right what they consider wrongs brought about by capitalism."
Now those people who last summer got all lathered up with hatred of Obama and screamed inanities at the town hall meetings or cheered on weapon carrying thugs at the meetings, what would they get from that fair and balanced rant. They'd get that Obama and the Democrats are the enemy of the US-which is a reinforcement of Palin's 2008 campaign speech. What is this "Mr. Obama likes his property, and I don't believe he wants to seize my house," other than Democrats wanting an economy directed by the state that owns all the means of production --which is what socialism is defined as.
O'Reilly said "Some Obama critics contend that he himself is a socialist, but we can find no evidence of that," but last week he had a different fair and balanced spin.
The article states "But just last week, in a portion of his interview with Comedy Central's Jon Stewart that was cut from his broadcast, O'Reilly was himself one of the "Obama critics" contending the President is a socialist. He said Obama "believes" in "tyranny and socialism":
STEWART: All I hear on this network is "tryanny and socialism."
O'REILLY: That's that [Obama] believes! ... I don't think he's a socialist, but he does believe in a redistribution of income, Barack Obama, and that is a socialist tenant.
Moreover, O'Reilly once claimed that discussions of public option as part of health care reform - which President Obama supports - is "really about socialism." And earlier this month, O'Reilly peddled the notion that "there are a lot of people" who believe that Obama "is a socialist who wants to impose a different system on the United States of America." "Shouldn't they have a voice?" he asked."
FOX promoted the Tea Party movement which the article "Tea Party movement" at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement
illustrates as it states "Media Matters for America, a self-described progressive media watchdog organization, argued that the Fox News Channel actively promoted the tea parties and encouraged viewers to get involved with them instead of neutrally covering them. The group pointed to several examples, including an episode of Glenn Beck's show in which an on-air graphic referred to some of the protests as "FNC Tax Day Tea Parties".
The GOP propagandists advanced the Tea Party hoping that would help their GOP masters.
The article "Commentary: Declining Republican Demographics" at
http://dnc.kgnu.org/2008/08/04/commentary-declining-republican-demographics/
details the GOP dilemma. No one wants what they are selling so they have to appeal to the Tea Party movement through hate, fear and warmongering. The article states "Ronald Reagan dreamed of turning the GOP into America's permanent majority-but his dreams were designed for a different time, a different people. Republican voters are disappearing. The Republican Party built its power on the white vote, the church-going vote, and the male vote. But each of these groups are shrinking as a share of the electorate, while groups with little taste for the GOP are exploding.
A demographic disaster awaits the Republican party. Barack Obama represents a fundamental transformation in the American electorate. The GOP majority built on white, church-going men is collapsing as new voters reduce the Republican party to the status of bewildered minority."
Sure the Democrats lost Massachusetts with a lackluster candidate. The voters there voted against the health care that they already possessed.
The GOP can't win much with polling data as it stands. The recent, 10-20-09, article "Post Poll: Only 20% Identify As Republicans, Lowest Since 1983" at
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/20/fewer-people-identify-as_n_326971.html
states "Reporting on the new ABC/Washington Post poll has mostly focused on support for a public health care option. But the poll also shows that, while Republicans have succeeded in stonewalling Democratic initiatives in Congress, they have not managed to rebuild their party.
Only 20 percent of respondents identified themselves as Republicans -- the lowest number since 1983."
The article "GOP Losses Span Nearly All Demographic Groups" at
http://www.gallup.com/poll/118528/gop-losses-span-nearly-demographic-groups.aspx
states "The decline in Republican Party affiliation among Americans in recent years is well documented, but a Gallup analysis now shows that this movement away from the GOP has occurred among nearly every major demographic subgroup. Since the first year of George W. Bush's presidency in 2001, the Republican Party has maintained its support only among frequent churchgoers, with conservatives and senior citizens showing minimal decline ...
As was shown earlier, the GOP's loss in leaned support over this time is evident among nearly every subgroup. The losses are substantial among college graduates, which have shown a decline in GOP support of 10 points. (The losses are even greater -- 13 points -- among the subset of college graduates with postgraduate educations.) This may reflect in part Barack Obama's strong appeal to educated voters, a major component of his winning coalitions in both the Democratic primaries and the general election."
The members of the Tea Party are lost souls. They are under-educated and lower-income and until their economic situation improves they can only be reached by appealing to their baser instincts-which is what the GOP propaganda is accomplishing. They can call Obama anything they want but what will it gain them?
It was well chronicled that the Tea Party transported its members to campaign and pad seats at events for Scott Brown. This phenomenon was also noted during the summer's town hall meetings were the same members of the Tea Party were seen in events all over the US-consequentially it would be foolish to estimate their size.
The article "Poll shows country's view of Tea Party movement" at
http://usnews.eu/poll-shows-countrys-view-of-tea-party-movement.html
states "One-third of Americans have a favorable view of the Tea Party movement, but a plurality has no opinion at all, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey indicates that 26 percent of the public has an unfavorable view of the Tea Party movement and that 4 in 10 have not heard of the movement or don't know enough to form an opinion."
The GOP propaganda machine are attempting to keep their almost invisible base together. They shilled for the Tea Party. They even hired the lost and overwhelmed portion of the US' idol, the vapid Palin. What has this effort gained them?
