For a party that was deemed as practically extinct after the 2008 Presidential election, it seems that the GOP has some reignited energy and perhaps even renewed support from voters. While this was not necessarily a mandate from the American people, it is a huge message to Democrats and President Obama: get it together and start working for the people.
With overinflated government, bailouts, an unpopular healthcare bill that was rammed through Congress and has led to higher premiums, higher taxes, a sluggish economy, and unemployment making little to no signs of improvement, the American people took their frustrations to the ballot. Hope and change was not enough this time around as results have been practically non-existent if not worse.
Republicans scored the biggest party turnover in over 70 years just by gaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives. In doing so, Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi was dethroned from her position of house speaker, a key target for many of the campaigns.
Additionally, while Democrats still have control of the Senate, the GOP managed to score several seats with some races still too close to call.
How this will pan out in the next two years is unpredictable however one thing is certain: America wants jobs.
